Dynamic Constraints for Mixed-Criticality Systems [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Conference on Omni-Layer Intelligent Systems, 2019
We define quality of service requirements for mixed-criticality systems based on min-plus algebra rather than discrete criticality levels. The requirements (1) unify a spectrum of weakly-hard real-time requirements with strongly-hard real-time and soft real-time as extreme cases and (2) support dynamic tuning of task importance.

Scheduling Complex Cyber-Physical Systems with Mixed-Criticality Components

open access: yesSystems, 2023
Two emerging trends for designing a complex, cyber-physical systems are the component-based and mixed-criticality (MC) approaches. A component-based approach independently develops individual components and subsequently integrates them to reduce system ...

FlexPRET: A processor platform for mixed-criticality systems [PDF]

open access: yes2014 IEEE 19th Real-Time and Embedded Technology and Applications Symposium (RTAS), 2014
Mixed-criticality systems, in which multiple tasks of varying criticality execute on a single hardware platform, are an emerging research area in real-time embedded systems. High-criticality tasks require spatial and temporal isolation guarantees for independent verification, and the task set should efficiently utilize hardware resources.

Towards the Design of Certifiable Mixed-criticality Systems

open access: yes2010 16th IEEE Real-Time and Embedded Technology and Applications Symposium, 2010
Many safety-critical embedded systems are subject to certification requirements; some systems may be required to meet multiple sets of certification requirements, from different certification authorities. Certification requirements in such "mixed-criticality" systems give rise to some interesting scheduling problems, that cannot be satisfactorily ...

Towards Fully Jitterless Applications: Periodic Scheduling in Multiprocessor MCSs Using a Table-Driven Approach

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
In mixed criticality systems (MCSs), the time-triggered scheduling approach focuses on a special case of safety-critical embedded applications which run in a time-triggered environment.

Service adaptions for mixed-criticality systems [PDF]

open access: yes2014 19th Asia and South Pacific Design Automation Conference (ASP-DAC), 2014
Complex embedded systems are typically mixed-critical, where heterogeneous guarantees must be provided for functionalities of different criticalities. We study in this paper the reconfiguration of services provided to low criticality tasks in reaction to the overruns of high criticality tasks.

Reducing Dynamic Power Consumption in Mixed-Critical Real-Time Systems

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
In this paper, we study energy minimization consumption of a mixed criticality real-time system on uni-core. Our focus is on a new scheduling scheme to decrease the frequency level in order to conserve power.

Overhead Based Cluster Scheduling of Mixed Criticality Systems on Multicore Platform

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
The cluster-based technique is gaining focus for scheduling tasks of mixed-criticality (MC) real-time multicore systems. In this technique, the cores of the MC system are distributed in groups known as clusters. When all cores are distributed in clusters,

ILP Approach for Periodic Dependent Tasks in Multicore Mixed-criticality systems [PDF]

open access: yesMathematics and Computational Sciences, 2022
Today, the desire to use mixed-critical systems in the industry is increasing. In order to provide the processing power required by mixed-critical systems, multi-core architectures are considered a suitable option.

A Survey of Research into Mixed Criticality Systems [PDF]

open access: yesACM Computing Surveys, 2017
This survey covers research into mixed criticality systems that has been published since Vestal’s seminal paper in 2007, up until the end of 2016. The survey is organised along the lines of the major research areas within this topic. These include single processor analysis (including fixed priority and Earliest Deadline First (EDF) scheduling, shared ...
