Green synthesis and biological evaluation of novel 5-fluorouracil derivatives as potent anticancer agents

open access: yesSaudi Pharmaceutical Journal, 2019
This study reports the formation of 5-FU co-crystals with four different pharmacologically safe co-formers; Urea, Thiourea, Acetanilide and Aspirin using methanol as a solvent. Two fabrication schemes were followed i.e., solid-state grinding protocol, in

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Growth and characterization of potassium cobalt nickel sulfate hexahydrate crystals: A new UV light filter

open access: yesJournal of Science: Advanced Materials and Devices, 2017
Samples of the empirical formula K2+Nix2+Co1−x2+SO42⋅6H2O were grown with a partial occupation of the cations Co and Ni. Mixed crystals with good optical quality were obtained by the slow evaporation growth method.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Evidence of ice crystals at cloud top of Arctic boundary-layer mixed-phase clouds derived from airborne remote sensing [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2009
The vertical distribution of ice crystals in Arctic boundary-layer mixed-phase (ABM) clouds was investigated by airborne remote-sensing and in situ measurements during the Arctic Study of Tropospheric Aerosol, Clouds and Radiation (ASTAR) campaign in ...

Crystal structures in generalized Skyrme model

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate the properties of triply-periodic Skyrme crystals in the generalized Skyrme model $\mathcal{L}_6 + \mathcal{L}_4 + \mathcal{L}_2+ \mathcal{L}_0$ with higher-derivative terms up to sixth order.

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Multicomponent mixtures for cryoprotection and ligand solubilization

open access: yesBiotechnology Reports, 2015
Mixed cryoprotectants have been developed for the solubilization of ligands for crystallization of protein–ligand complexes and for crystal soaking. Low affinity lead compounds with poor solubility are problematic for structural studies.
