The Surface Plasmon Resonance Effect on the Defect-Mode Cholesteric Liquid Crystals Doped With Gold Nanoparticles

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2018
Cholesteric liquid crystals exhibit the characteristics of photonic crystals with a photonic bandgap. A defect-mode cholesteric liquid crystal module was assembled in this study, and laser dye and gold nanoparticles are mixed into this module.

Growth and characterisation of phosphate mixed ZTS single crystals

open access: yes, 1999
The growth of zinc tris (thiourea) sulfo-phosphate, ZTSP, single crystals from aqueous solution by a low temperature solution growth technique is reported. ZTSP crystals were grown by partial substitution of sulfate with phosphate. The growth was carried

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

OPTICAL PHONONS IN GAS1-XSEX LAYER MIXED-CRYSTALS

open access: yes, 1983
Measurements are made of polarized Raman scattering and infrared reflection spectra of twenty two compositions of GaS1‐xSex layer mixed crystals grown by the Bridgman method. Besides the usual one‐mode and two‐mode behaviours of phonon modes, a number of

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Green synthesis and biological evaluation of novel 5-fluorouracil derivatives as potent anticancer agents

open access: yesSaudi Pharmaceutical Journal, 2019
This study reports the formation of 5-FU co-crystals with four different pharmacologically safe co-formers; Urea, Thiourea, Acetanilide and Aspirin using methanol as a solvent. Two fabrication schemes were followed i.e., solid-state grinding protocol, in

Preparation, characterisation and structural analysis of salts and co-crystals of organic compounds

open access: yes, 2008
In this thesis the factors influencing the formation of a binary compound and the proton transfer within the binary compound have been investigated.

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.
