The Synchronization of Traffic Signals by Mixed-Integer Linear Programming [PDF]

open access: yesOperations Research, 1965
Traffic signals can be synchronized so that a car, starting at one end of a main artery and traveling at preassigned speeds, can go to the other end without stopping for a red light. The portion of a signal cycle for which this is possible is called the bandwidth for that direction.

Far‐Infrared Hyperbolic Phonon–Polaritons in Zirconium Disulfide

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An unpatterned ZrS2${\rm ZrS}_2$ flake, coupled to far‐field infrared light by metal nanoribbons, reveals hyperbolic phonon polaritons with multiple higher‐order branches and effective refractive indices up to 223. This resonator‐assisted approach establishes ZrS2${\rm ZrS}_2$ as a compact van der Waals platform for deeply subwavelength far‐infrared ...

Optimizing Supply Chain Inventory: A Mixed Integer Linear Programming Approach

open access: yesSystems
: Inventory supply chain planning involves determining the quantity of products to be transported among entities within a specified planning horizon. Often, inventory levels are reviewed at set intervals: (1) Background: In this paper, periodic review (s,

A Heuristic for a Mixed Integer Program using the Characteristic Equation Approach [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematical, Engineering and Management Sciences, 2017
While most linear programming (LP) problems can be solved in polynomial time, pure and mixed integer problems are NP-hard and there are no known polynomial time algorithms to solve these problems.

Programmable Functional Silicification of DNA Origami Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces additional functionality into silica‐coated DNA origami nanostructures using non‐standard silica precursors. A fluorescent precursor enables enhanced intracellular tracking, while a disulfide‐containing reagent yields redox‐responsive, degradable silica coatings.

Multi-objective optimization for electric water heater using mixed integer linear programming

open access: yesJournal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy, 2019
Due to the capacity of thermal storage, electric water heater (EWH) is one of the best candidates for demand response programs. However, few attentions are given to the modeling and optimization of EWHs with thermostatically-controlled automatic water ...

Application-oriented mixed integer non-linear programming [PDF]

open access: yes4OR, 2010
In the most recent years there is a renovate interest for Mixed Integer Non-Linear Programming (MINLP) problems. This can be explained for different reasons: (i) the performance of solvers handling non-linear constraints was largely improved; (ii) the awareness that most of the applications from the real-world can be modeled as an MINLP problem; (iii ...

Coaxial Melt Electrowriting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Coaxial melt electrowriting is established to produce dual‐property microfibers with diameters spanning 1.6–29.2 µm. Stable coaxial laminar flow is preserved under electrohydrodynamic thinning, enabling controlled binary and gradient material switching within individual continuous fibers.
