Recycled Piezoelectric Materials with Competitive Second‐Life Functional Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
The essential piezoelectric ceramics with heavy ecological footprints are not sufficiently recycled. This work demonstrates the feasibility of recycling different types of piezoelectric ceramics using different binders, where the terpolymer binder with relatively large permittivity facilitated superior retention of properties after recycling, promoting

The Influence of Non-Gaussian Roughness and Spectral Properties on Mixed Lubrication for Heavily Loaded Counterformal Contacts

open access: yesLubricants
The impact of non-Gaussian height distribution and spectral properties on the lubrication performance of counterformal (point) contacts is quantitatively studied (film parameter, Λ, and asperity load ratio, La) by developing a mixed lubrication model ...

Advanced Experiment Design Strategies for Drug Development

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Wang et al. analyze 592 drug development studies published between 2020 and 2024 that applied design of experiments methodologies. The review surveys both classical and emerging approaches—including Bayesian optimization and active learning—and identifies a critical gap between advanced experimental strategies and their practical adoption in ...

Data‐Driven Design of Bimodal Networked Dielectric Elastomers for High‐Performance Artificial Muscles

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A data‐efficient artificial intelligence‐assisted framework, which integrates experimental data with machine learning, is developed for the design of bimodal networked dielectric elastomers (DEs) as advanced artificial muscles. It adopts neural networks to predict DEs’ mechanical properties and support vector machines to classify electromechanical ...

Ciliary propulsion of objects in tubes: wall drag on swimming Tetrahymena (Ciliata) in the presence of mucin and other long-chain polymers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
The lubrication effect of three long-chain polymers - mucin, methylcellulose and Ficoll - on ciliary propulsion in tubes is measured by plotting the relative velocities of swimming cilitates as a function of the tube bore diameter.

Mucin Glycoprotein Nanoparticles Enable a Selective Antisense Therapy for Oncogenic MicroRNAs

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Mucin glycoproteins are turned into nanoparticles by employing synthetic DNA strands, which have a dual function: they stabilize the nanoparticles and act as binding sites for intracellular miRNA‐21. Thus, upon internalization into tumor cells, these mucin nanoparticles can deplete miRNA‐21 from the cytosol, which induces apoptosis in vitro and in vivo.

Recent developments in mixed lubrication

open access: yesInternational Journal for Engineering Modelling, 2014
This paper reviews the advances in the study of mixed lubrication in recent years, both in theoretical modelling and in experiments, especially those marking substantial progress. The advances support the mode of mixed lubrication proposed by the author more than ten years ago which exhibited thinning, mixed and partial films and mixed contacts in ...
