Experimental and Numerical Study on Mixed Lubrication Performance of Journal Bearing Considering Misalignment and Thermal Effect

open access: yesLubricants, 2022
The shaft misalignment under mixed lubrication is an important factor affecting the running performance of the bearing, which can occur under heavy load and unsatisfactory assembly.

Visualising the lubrication condition in hydrodynamic journal bearings using impedance measurement

open access: yesFrontiers in Mechanical Engineering
IntroductionThe demand to increase reliability and reduce maintenance costs drives the search for new condition monitoring solutions of machines. Bearings are of special interest in this matter as they are main contributors to machine downtime. Therefore,

The Influence of Plastic Bulk Deformation on Surface Roughness and Frictional Behavior during Deep Drawing Processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
In Sheet Metal Forming (SMF) processes, friction does play an important role. This with respect to the increase of product quality demands and the ability of predicting these processes by for instance finite element simulations.

Numerical Model of Mixed Lubrication and Experimental Study of Reciprocating Seal Based on Inverse Lubrication Theory

open access: yesLubricants, 2022
Based on the sealing mechanism of the reciprocating seal, the inverse-hydrodynamic-lubrication (IHL) method was adopted in this study to solve the Reynolds equation, and a multi-field coupled reciprocating seal mixed lubrication numerical model was ...

Application of Load-Sharing Concept to Mechanical Seals

open access: yesLubricants, 2023
Mechanical seals are mechanisms that are used to prevent fluid leakage. Since the seal surfaces are in contact with one another, hydrodynamic and contact forces are functions of surface roughness. Additionally, since the lubrication regime under specific

On the mechanism of ZDDP antiwear film formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Zinc dialkyldithiophosphate additives are used to control wear and inhibit oxidation in almost all engine oils as well as many other types of lubricant. They limit wear primarily by forming a thick, protective, phosphate glass-based tribofilm on rubbing ...

Transient mixed lubrication model of the human knee implant

open access: yesBiosurface and Biotribology, 2021
The human knee implant is computationally modelled in the mixed lubrication regime to investigate the tribological performance of the implant. This model includes the complex geometry of the implant components, unlike elliptical contact models that ...

The Influence of Scratches on the Tribological Performance of Friction Pairs Made of Different Materials under Water-Lubrication Conditions

open access: yesLubricants, 2023
Water-lubricated bearings are widely used in marine equipment, and the lubricating water often contains hard particles. Once these particles enter the gap between the bearing and the shaft, they can scratch the smooth surfaces of the shaft and bearing ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.
