Mixing by polymers: experimental test of decay regime of mixing

open access: yes, 2004
By using high molecular weight fluorescent passive tracers with different diffusion coefficients and by changing the fluid velocity we study dependence of a characteristic mixing length on the Peclet number, $Pe$, which controls the mixing efficiency ...

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

Concentration-adjustable micromixer using droplet injection into a microchannel

open access: yes, 2018
A novel micromixing technique that exploit a thrust of droplets into the mixing interface is developed. The technique enhances the mixing by injecting immiscible droplets in a mixing channel and the methodology enables a control of the mixing level ...

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

TFH Mixing Patterns, Large $\theta_{13}$ and $\Delta(96)$ Flavor Symmetry

open access: yes, 2012
We perform a comprehensive analysis of the Toorop-Feruglio-Hagedorn (TFH) mixing patterns within the family symmetry $\Delta(96)$. The general neutrino mass matrix for the TFH mixing and its symmetry properties are investigated. The possible realizations

The Caenorhabditis elegans DPF‐3 and human DPP4 have tripeptidyl peptidase activity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) family comprises serine proteases classically defined by their ability to remove dipeptides from the N‐termini of substrates, a feature that gave the family its name. Here, we report the discovery of a previously unrecognized tripeptidyl peptidase activity in DPPIV family members from two different species.

Entropic Forces in Geophysical Fluid Dynamics

open access: yesEntropy, 2009
Theories and numerical models of atmospheres and oceans are based on classical mechanics with added parameterizations to represent subgrid variability. Reformulated in terms of derivatives of information entropy with respect to large scale configurations,

Evaluation Criteria and Benefit Analysis of Mixing Process in Anaerobic Digesters of Biogas Plants

open access: yesEnvironmental and Climate Technologies, 2020
A valid method to evaluate decisions of a project proposal is the so-called cost-benefit analysis. Criteria are selected and properly weighted to determine if the project is effective and feasible.

Melt-Mixing by Novel Pitched-Tip Kneading Disks in a Co-Rotating Twin-Screw Extruder

open access: yes, 2010
Melt-mixing in twin-screw extruders is a key process in the development of polymer composites. Quantifying the mixing performance of kneading elements based on their internal physical processes is a challenging problem.
