An experimental study of plane mixing layer development [PDF]
Mean flow and turbulence was measured in the near field of two plane mixing layers in air with a maximum velocity of 21 m/sec. The experimental rig enabled mixing layers of velocity ratios 0 and 0.46 to be generated simultaneously.

Supersonic Shear Instabilities in Astrophysical Boundary Layers
Disk accretion onto weakly magnetized astrophysical objects often proceeds via a boundary layer that forms near the object's surface, in which the rotation speed of the accreted gas changes rapidly.

Dapagliflozin prevents methylglyoxal‐induced retinal cell death in ARPE‐19 cells
Diabetic macular oedema is a diabetes complication of the eye, which may lead to permanent blindness. ARPE‐19 are human retinal cells used to study retinal diseases and potential therapeutics. Methylglyoxal is a compound increased in uncontrolled diabetes due to elevated blood glucose.

Coherent structures in a simulated turbulent mixing layer [PDF]
A direct numerical simulation of a plane turbulent mixing layer has been performed. The simulation was initialized using two turbulent velocity fields obtained from direct numerical simulation of a turbulent boundary layer at momentum thickness Reynolds ...

Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Scalar entrainment in the mixing layer [PDF]
New definitions of entrainment and mixing based on the passive scalar field in the plane mixing layer are proposed. The definitions distinguish clearly between three fluid states: (1) unmixed fluid, (2) fluid engulfed in the mixing layer, trapped between

Effect of spin relaxations on the spin mixing conductances for a bilayer structure
The spin current can result in a spin-transfer torque in the normal-metal(NM)|ferromagnetic-insulator(FMI) or normal-metal(NM)|ferromagnetic-metal(FMM) bilayer.

Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...
