Segmentation and generalisation for writing skills transfer from humans to robots

open access: yesCognitive Computation and Systems, 2019
In this study, the authors present an enhanced generalised teaching by demonstration technique for a KUKA iiwa robot. Movements are recorded from a human operator, and then the recorded data are sent to be segmented via MATLAB by using the difference ...

Modelling Bimodal Data Using a Multivariate Triangular-Linked Distribution

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
Bimodal distributions have rarely been studied although they appear frequently in datasets. We develop a novel bimodal distribution based on the triangular distribution and then expand it to the multivariate case using a Gaussian copula. To determine the

Models for the Response of a Mixture

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B: Statistical Methodology, 1968
Summary Care needs to be exercised in the choice of model for a mixture system. The polynomial model, for example, cannot satisfactorily account for components which are inert or have additive effects and its coefficients lose their interpretative value when the variables are the proportions of components in the mixture.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Guaranteed Bounds on Information-Theoretic Measures of Univariate Mixtures Using Piecewise Log-Sum-Exp Inequalities

open access: yesEntropy, 2016
Information-theoretic measures, such as the entropy, the cross-entropy and the Kullback–Leibler divergence between two mixture models, are core primitives in many signal processing tasks.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Mixture Semisupervised Bayesian Principal Component Regression for Soft Sensor Modeling

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
In this paper, a mixture semisupervised Bayesian principal component regression-based soft sensor modeling method for nonlinear industrial process with multiple operating modes is presented. In many chemistry processes, part of output data samples may be

Phylogenetic mixture models for proteins [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, 2008
Standard protein substitution models use a single amino acid replacement rate matrix that summarizes the biological, chemical and physical properties of amino acids. However, site evolution is highly heterogeneous and depends on many factors: genetic code; solvent exposure; secondary and tertiary structure; protein function; etc.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
