Adaptive aggregation behavior of the scallop Mizuhopecten yessoensis in response to predation risk

open access: yesMarine Biology
Abstract Aggregation behavior in scallops, beyond known individual escape responses, may serve as an active defense against predators. We investigated this possibility in the scallop Mizuhopecten yessoensis facing the predatory sea star Distolasterias nipon.

Settling of mollusks and sedimentation on artificial substrata in the Sukhodol Bay (Japan Sea)

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2014
Density of bivalve spat settled on collectors determines the yield of aquaculture plantation. It varies considerably in different water areas at Primorye coast and has year-to-year variability. The spat settling intensity in the last decade is considered

Annual variation in thermal and structural properties of yesso scallops (Mizuhopecten yessoensis) adductor muscle

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems
The annual changes of the scallop’s adductor muscle in Ca2+-ATPase activity, chymotryptic digestion, endogenous fluorescence spectra, sulfhydryl content, and surface hydrophobicity were studied.

Effects of high temperature on the immuno-enzymetic activity in coelomic fluid of Mizuhopecten yessoensis

open access: yesJournal of Fisheries of China, 2013
In this study,we tested the high temperature mutation tolerance, survival and immune enzyme activity under different high temperature levels of Mizuhopecten yessoensis. There are two stages in our laboratory experiments.Firstly,we transferred M.yessoensis from the rearing temperature(15 ℃,control temperature)to 20,22,24and 26 ℃,and then we tested the ...

Hemolymph Parameters Are a Useful Tool for Assessing Bivalve Health and Water Quality

open access: yesDiversity
Bivalves play a key role in aquatic ecosystems and are a valuable commercial resource. The prosperity of these aquatic organisms depends mainly on the effectiveness of their immune defense, in which the hemolymph plays a central role.

Neural coordination via solute carrier transporters drives systemic thermal resilience in the Yesso scallop (Mizuhopecten yessoensis)

open access: yesAquaculture Reports
Acute thermal stress severely disrupts the systemic coordination essential for thermal homeostasis in bivalves, yet the underlying neuro-peripheral regulatory mechanisms remain poorly resolved.
