Influence of the Madden‐Julian Oscillation on Continental United States Hurricane Landfalls
The Madden‐Julian oscillation (MJO) significantly impacts North Atlantic hurricanes, with increased hurricane activity occurring when the MJO enhances convection over Africa and the tropical Indian Ocean and suppressed hurricane activity occurring when ...

MJO Initiation in the Real-Time Multivariate MJO Index
Abstract Madden–Julian oscillation (MJO) initiation in the real-time multivariate MJO (RMM) index is explored through an analysis of observed case studies and composite events. Specific examples illustrate that both the dates of MJO initiation and the existence of the MJO itself can vary substantially among several well-known MJO indices,

Based on the data regarding summer precipitation in North China, the tropical Madden–Julian Oscillation (MJO) index (meaning the “All-Season Real-Time Multivariate MJO index,” abbreviated as RMM1 and RMM2), and National Centers for Environmental ...

Previous studies have found that Madden‐Julian Oscillation (MJO) amplitude depends on the Quasi‐Biennial Oscillation (QBO) during boreal winter. This MJO‐QBO relationship is important to realizing subseasonal‐to‐seasonal prediction skills, but the ...

Abstract The Madden–Julian oscillation (MJO) interacts with and influences a wide range of weather and climate phenomena (e.g., monsoons, ENSO, tropical storms, midlatitude weather), and represents an important, and as yet unexploited, source of predictability at the subseasonal time scale.

The MJO‐Kelvin wave transition
As the Madden‐Julian oscillation (MJO) moves eastward from the Indian to the Pacific ocean, it typically accelerates, becomes less strongly coupled to convection, and becomes more similar to a dry Kelvin wave. This transition is analyzed using observations of outgoing longwave radiation and ERA Interim reanalyses of surface pressure and 850 hPa zonal ...

Evaluation of CMIP6 Models in Simulating Australian Monsoon Over Northern Australia
The study assesses CMIP6 models for their ability to simulate key aspects of the Australian summer monsoon, including precipitation patterns, wind circulation, monsoon onset/retreat, and ENSO teleconnections. Most models overestimate rainfall, underestimate wind strength, and simulate more uniform ENSO influence across northeast and northwest Australia.
