Testing of NKA expression by mobile real time PCR is an efficient indicator of smoltification status of farmed Atlantic salmon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Assessment of seawater readiness of freshwater salmon smolts is a crucial husbandry step with economic implications in salmon aquaculture but current methods rely on delayed centralised enzymic activity measurement.

Mobile group I introns at nuclear rDNA position L2066 harbor sense and antisense homing endonuclease genes intervened by spliceosomal introns

open access: yesMobile DNA, 2022
Background Mobile group I introns encode homing endonucleases that confer intron mobility initiated by a double-strand break in the intron-lacking allele at the site of insertion.

Quadruplex-Forming Motif Inserted into 3′UTR of Ty1his3-AI Retrotransposon Inhibits Retrotransposition in Yeast

open access: yesBiology, 2021
Guanine quadruplexes (G4s) serve as regulators of replication, recombination and gene expression. G4 motifs have been recently identified in LTR retrotransposons, but their role in the retrotransposon life-cycle is yet to be understood.

4G mobile phone radiation alters some immunogenic and vascular gene expressions, and gross and microscopic and biochemical parameters in the chick embryo model

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, 2023
Background The risks to human health have grown over the past 10 years due to the excessive use of mobile phones. Objectives The study was designed to determine the harmful effects of 4G mobile phone radiation on the expression of immunogenic and ...

VCAM-1 Is Upregulated in Uranium Miners Compared to Other Miners

open access: yesLife, 2021
The United States has a rich history of mining including uranium (U)-mining, coal mining, and other metal mining. Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are largely understudied in miners and recent literature suggests that when compared to non-U miners, U-miners

SCIFER: approach for analysis of LINE-1 mRNA expression in single cells at a single locus resolution

open access: yesMobile DNA, 2022
Background Endogenous expression of L1 mRNA is the first step in an L1-initiated mutagenesis event. However, the contribution of individual cell types to patterns of organ-specific L1 mRNA expression remains poorly understood, especially at single-locus ...

Interactions of the Streptococcus pneumoniae Toxin-Antitoxin RelBE Proteins with Their Target DNA

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
Type II bacterial toxin-antitoxin (TA) systems are found in most bacteria, archaea, and mobile genetic elements. TAs are usually found as a bi-cistronic operon composed of an unstable antitoxin and a stable toxin that targets crucial cellular functions ...

Impact of GSM-EMW exposure on the markers of oxidative stress in fetal rat liver

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
The current study investigated the effects of 24 h/day prenatal exposure to global system for mobile communication electromagnetic fields (GSM-EMFs), 900 MHZ-induced electromagnetic radiation (EMR), on oxidative stress (OS) status, apoptotic, and ...

SNEV is an evolutionarily conserved splicing factor whose oligomerization is necessary for spliceosome assembly

open access: yes, 2005
We have isolated the human protein SNEV as downregulated in replicatively senescent cells. Sequence homology to the yeast splicing factor Prp19 suggested that SNEV might be the orthologue of Prp19 and therefore might also be involved in pre-mRNA splicing.
