SPEECHWEAR: a mobile speech system [PDF]

open access: yesProceeding of Fourth International Conference on Spoken Language Processing. ICSLP '96, 1996
We describe a system that allows ambulating users to perform data entry and retrieval using a speech interface to a wearable computer. The interface is a speech-enabled Web browser that allows the user to access both locally stored documents as well as remote ones through a wireless link.

A Tutorial on Wideband XL-MIMO: Challenges, Opportunities, and Future Trends

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society
As identified by international telecommunication union (ITU), extremely large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (XL-MIMO) is one of the pivotal enablers for sixth generation (6G) mobile communication networks across mmWave, sub-THz, and emerging mid ...

Applying Density-Based Clustering for the Analysis of Emission Events in Real Driving Emissions Calibration

open access: yesFuture Transportation
Further reducing greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions from road vehicles is a major task for the automotive industry. Stricter regulations regarding emissions and fleet fuel consumption require the continuous development of new powertrains and methods.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Mobility is the Message: Experiments with Mobile Media Sharing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This thesis explores new mobile media sharing applications by building, deploying, and studying their use. While we share media in many different ways both on the web and on mobile phones, there are few ways of sharing media with people physically near ...

Pilot-Efficient Beam Training and Codebook Design for Near-Field XL-MIMO Systems

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society
The transition from far-field to near-field propagation in extremely large-scale multipleinput multiple-output (XL-MIMO) systems introduces a fundamental change in how wireless channels are modeled, which leads to location-dependent beam focusing rather ...

CRATER: A Crowd Sensing Application to Estimate Road Conditions

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2016
We developed a crowd sensing application to estimate road conditions (CRATER). CRATER is a smartphone application that opportunistically measures acceleration when it finds itself on the road in order to map and measure the locations of potholes and ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
