Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Effect of ammonia and natural gas Co-fueling on combustion and greenhouse gas emissions in a marine diesel engine

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
This study experimentally investigates the effects of fuel blending strategies on combustion and emission characteristics in a single-cylinder, four-stroke marine diesel engine with natural gas and ammonia.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Identification of functional murine mitochondrial formyl peptides and their effects on myeloid‐derived suppressor cell generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...

Leveraging Bluetooth and GPS Sensors for Route-Level Passenger Origin–Destination Flow Estimation

open access: yesSensors
Accurate estimation of passenger origin–destination (OD) matrices is critical for optimizing public transportation systems, yet conventional methods face challenges, such as incomplete alighting data, high infrastructure costs, and privacy concerns. With

Effective temperature in nonequilibrium steady states of Langevin systems with a tilted periodic potential

open access: yes, 2004
We theoretically study Langevin systems with a tilted periodic potential. It has been known that the ratio $\Theta$ of the diffusion constant to the differential mobility is not equal to the temperature of the environment (multiplied by the Boltzmann ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Education and Social Mobility [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper shows that the design of education policy involves a potential conflict between welfare and social mobility. We consider a setting in which social mobility is maximized under the least elitist public education system, whereas welfare ...

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Effects of a 30-min rest with a nap chair on task performance, sleepiness, and neurophysiological measures in men with suspected brain fatigue: a randomized controlled crossover trial

open access: yesFrontiers in Sleep
BackgroundIt has been suggested that a short nap in the afternoon may improve sleepiness, alertness, and task performance. The present study evaluated the effects of a 30-min rest with a new nap chair on task performance, sleepiness, and ...
