Experimental Detection and Measurement of Crack-Type Damage Features in Composite Thin-Wall Beams Using Modal Analysis

open access: yesSensors, 2021
An experimental proof-of-concept for damage detection in composite beams using modal analysis has been conducted. The purpose was to demonstrate that damage features can be detected, located, and measured on the surface of a relatively complex thin-wall ...

Modal control based on direct modal parameters estimation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Vibration and Control, 2017
Modal active control is based on a state model that requires the identification of modal parameters. This identification can typically be done through a rational fraction polynomial algorithm applied in the frequency domain. This method generates numerical problems when estimating high-order models, particularly when moving from the basis of orthogonal

Modal parameter identification of a MEMS gyroscope [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2000 American Control Conference. ACC (IEEE Cat. No.00CH36334), 2000
This paper reports the experimental system identification of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory microelectromechanical (MEMS) vibrational rate gyroscope. A high-order two-input/two-output transfer function for the microgyroscope is identified and mapped to a three-mode rigid plate model that reveals the orientation of important vibrational modes.

A New Maximum Likelihood Estimator Formulated in Pole-Residue Modal Model

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Recently, a lot of efforts have been devoted to developing more precise Modal Parameter Estimation (MPE) techniques. This is explained by the necessity in civil, mechanical and aerospace engineering of obtaining accurate estimates for the modal ...

Damage localization using experimental modal parameters and topology optimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This work focuses on the developement of a damage detection and localization tool using the Topology Optimization feature of MSC.Nastran. This approach is based on the correlation of a local stiness loss and the change in modal parameters due to damages ...
