Frequency Diversity in Mode-Division Multiplexing Systems [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Lightwave Technology, 2011
In the regime of strong mode coupling, the modal gains and losses and the modal group delays of a multimode fiber are known to have well-defined statistical properties. In mode-division multiplexing, mode-dependent gains and losses are known to cause fluctuations in the channel capacity, so that the capacity at finite outage probability can be ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Ultra-Broadband Polymer 1 × 2 Thermo-Optic Mode Switch

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2021
Optical mode switch is a key device for reconfigurable mode-division-multiplexing (MDM) technique. Here, an ultra-broadband 1×2 mode switch based on cascaded Mach-Zehnder interferometer and asymmetric Y-branch is proposed.

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

Сompensator of polarization mode dispersion based on spiral-wound single-mode fiber [PDF]

open access: yesTekhnologiya i Konstruirovanie v Elektronnoi Apparature, 2013
A polarization mode dispersion (PMD) compensator for single-mode optical fiber has been designed. Its operation principle is based on the use of artificial difference of phase velocities of the basic ordinary and extraordinary waves in spiral-wound fiber,

95.16-Gb/s Mode-Division-Multiplexing Signal Transmission in Free-Space Enabled by Effective-Conversion of Vector Beams

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
We introduce a high-efficient vector modes (VMs) conversion scheme by using Q-plate (QP) and half-waveplate based on higher-order Poincaré sphere model.

Joint WDM and OAM Mode Group Multiplexed Transmission Over Conventional Multimode Fiber

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2023
To exploit the advantages of multimode fiber (MMF)-based transmission and to improve the overall capacity, transmission of OAM modes over a single wavelength needs to be replaced by multichannel transmission with the proper experimental demonstration in ...

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Universal Design of Ultra-Broadband and Ultra-Compact High Order Mode Pass Filters Based on Enhanced Absorption in Ultrathin Metal Layers

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2022
In hybrid plasmonic Si waveguides integrated with ultrathin Au stripes, mode hybridization effects between quasi-TE modes of different orders and various bound modes are first presented.

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...
