Interferometric characterization of few-mode fibers (FMF) for mode-division multiplexing (MDM) [PDF]
The rapid growth of global data traffic demands the continuous search for new technologies and systems that could increase transmission capacity in optical links and recent experiments show that to do so, it is advantageous to explore new degrees of freedom such as polarization, wavelength or optical modes.

Integrated Switch for Mode-Division Multiplexing (MDM) and Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (WDM)
CLEO: 2015, 2015We demonstrate the first integrated switch for mode-division multiplexing (MDM) and wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM). We show on-chip routing of four 10 Gb/s channels with

We demonstrate a 80-channel communication link with >150 Gbps error-free data transmission utilizing Photonic Crystal Resonator (PhCR) with normal dispersion as a comb source. We utilize a 4-channel inverse-designed mode-division multiplexer to increase data rates.

Side-tap modal channel monitor for mode division multiplexed (MDM) systems
Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2012We demonstrate a sidetap modal channel monitor based on a tilted Bragg grating, where different modes radiate at different angles. We qualitatively correlate the observed modal power partitioning with more accurate interferometer-based measurements.

We propose an enhanced Stokes Space based mode division de-multiplexing algorithm by using S0 based layered fitting (SLF) method, which can realize QPSK&16QAM hybrid modulation format de-multiplexing in few mode transmissions. The effectiveness of this method is substantiated through numerical simulations under mode division multiplexed transmission ...

Mode division multiplexed (MDM) waveguide link scheme with cascaded Y-junctions
Optics Communications, 2013Abstract A potentially high throughput waveguide mode multiplexer/demultiplexer (MUX/DEMUX) exemplified by two cascaded Y-junctions is shown to be capable of efficiently transforming modes from single mode waveguides into a two-dimensional set of the orthogonal ones in a multi-mode waveguide, and back.
