Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) based Mode Division Multiplexing (MDM) over a Km-length Fiber
European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication, 2012Abstract (40-Word Limit): We demonstrate the first MDM scheme using OAM states over 1.1 km of fiber enabled by a SLM-based mux/de-mux scheme and a specialty fiber. Subsystem was used to successfully transmit data at 400 Gb/s (4-modes, 50 GBaud QPSK, 1550nm).

By combining WDM with orbital angular momentum (OAM) based mode division multiplexing (MDM), we experimentally demonstrate 8.4-Tbit/s data transmission over an 18-km OAM fiber without MIMO DSP. All of the channels achieve a BER below 20% HD-FEC limit.
