Intensity noise of mode-locked fiber lasers

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2009
Intensity noise of mode-locked fiber lasers is characterized systematically for all major mode-locking regimes over a wide range of parameters. We find that equally low-noise performance can be obtained in all regimes. Losses in the cavity influence noise strongly without a clear trace in the pulse characteristics.

Sub-100 fs watt-level Kerr-lens mode-locked Yb:CaYAlO4 laser with a gigahertz repetition rate

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2023
We report a 1.04 GHz high-power Kerr-lens mode-locked Yb:CaYAlO4 laser pumped by a single-mode fiber laser at 976 nm. Based on a bow-tie cavity, stable unidirectional mode-locked operation is obtained with an output coupler of 1.6%.

Mode-locked fiber laser with a fiber phase modulator [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 1989
FM mode-locked operation of a single-mode Nd(3+)-doped fiber laser has been achieved with an integrated fiber phase modulator. The technique permits a low-loss cavity configuration, resulting in low threshold and high slope efficiency. Pulses of ~200-psec duration are observed at a repetition rate of 417 MHz with an average output power of 15 mW.

High-Sensitivity Demodulation of Fiber-Optic Acoustic Emission Sensor Using Self-Injection Locked Diode Laser

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2022
We demonstrate the use of a self-injection locked distributed feedback (DFB) diode laser for high-sensitivity detection of acoustic emission (AE) using a fiber-coil Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) sensor.

Large energy soliton erbium-doped fiber laser with a graphene-polymer composite mode locker

open access: yes, 2009
Due to its unique electronic property and the Pauli Blocking Principle, atomic layer graphene possesses wavelength-independent ultrafast saturable absorption, which can be exploited for the ultrafast photonics application.

Wavelength-Switchable and Wavelength-Tunable All-Normal-Dispersion Mode-Locked Yb-Doped Fiber Laser Based on Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube Wall Paper Absorber

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
We demonstrate a compact wavelength-tunable and -switchable mode-locked Yb-doped fiber (YDF) laser based on single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) wall paper absorber. Two mechanisms coexist in the fiber cavity.

Hysteresis phenomenon and multistability in figure-of-eight microstructured fiber laser [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We report a theoretical investigation of multi-pulse emission of a microstructured figure-ofeight fiber laser operating in passive mode-locking. The proposed laser is mode locked by the nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM).

Sub-100 fs pulse generation from dispersion-managed mode-locked Er:ZBLAN fiber laser at 2.8 μm

open access: yesHigh Power Laser Science and Engineering
We demonstrate the sub-100 fs pulse generation from a dispersion-managed mode-locked Er:ZBLAN fiber laser at 2.8 μm. Both numerical simulation and experiment demonstrate that stretched-pulse and dissipative soliton mode lockings coexist in the near-zero ...

All-fiber passively mode-locked thulium-doped fiber ring laser using optically deposited graphene saturable absorbers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
An all-fiber passively mode-locked thulium-doped fiber ring oscillator is constructed using optically deposited few layer graphene micro-sheets as the saturable absorber (SA). The mode-lock operation was achieved by 130-mW pump power at 1.5-μm. The fiber
