An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Mode-Coupling Approximations, Glass Theory and Disordered Systems

open access: yes, 1995
We discuss the general link between mode-coupling like equations (which serve as the basis of some recent theories of supercooled liquids) and the dynamical equations governing mean-field spin-glass models, or the dynamics of a particle in a random ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Mode coupling of Schwarzschild perturbations: Ringdown frequencies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Within linearized perturbation theory, black holes decay to their final stationary state through the well-known spectrum of quasinormal modes. Here we numerically study whether nonlinearities change this picture.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Nonlinear modeling of ELM mitigation with RMP on HL-2A

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Nonlinear modeling of mitigation of the edge localized mode (ELM) with resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) is performed for the HL-2A tokamak, utilizing the three-dimensional (3D) magnetohydrodynamic code JOREK.

Control of Excitation of Cladding Modes by Tapering an Insertion of Special Fiber

open access: yesSensors, 2021
A method for controlling the excitation of cladding modes by tapering special fiber insertions made of SM450 and coreless fibers is proposed. The coupling coefficients between the core mode and the cladding modes of the tapered fiber insertion are ...

Multibranch Bogoliubov-Bloch spectrum of a cigar shaped Bose condensate in an optical lattice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We study properties of excited states of an array of weakly coupled quasi-two-dimensional Bose condensates by using the hydrodynamic theory. The spectrum of the axial excited states strongly depends on the coupling among the various discrete radial modes

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.
