Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Study on the Effect of Rock Strength on the Macro-Meso Shear Behaviors of Artificial Rock Joints

open access: yesGeofluids, 2022
Understanding the shear properties of joints of rock masses is of great importance for engineering disaster prevention and control. In this paper, a systematic study of the macroscopic shear properties of joints of rock masses with different strengths is

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Experimental Study on Fracture Behavior due to a Crack under Mode II and Mode III Deformation by Compressive Loading

open access: yesJournal of the Society of Materials Science, Japan, 2007
* Compressive loading tests using acrylic acid resin and mortar specimens are conducted to research the fracture of materials with a macroscopic discontinuity under the compression loading in this study. The new types of speci- men shape that can produce mode Ⅱ and mode Ⅲ deformation are used.

Modelling of impact damage and permanent indentation on laminate composite plate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper deals with impact damage and permanent indentation modelling. A model enabling the formation of damages developing during a low velocity / low energy impact test on laminate composite panels has been elaborated.

Velocity Fluctuations in Dynamical Fracture: the Role of Microcracks

open access: yes, 2004
We address the velocity fluctuations of fastly moving cracks in stressed materials. One possible mechanism for such fluctuations is the interaction of the main crack with micro cracks (irrespective whether these are existing material defects or they form

Computing stress intensity factors for curvilinear cracks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The use of the interaction integral to compute stress intensity factors around a crack tip requires selecting an auxiliary field and a material variation field.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Large plastic zones and extensive influence of notch under near-threshold mode II and mode III loading of fatigue cracks

open access: yesProcedia Structural Integrity, 2018
Abstract Plastic zone shapes and sizes were determined for a cylindrical specimen for mode II and mode III crack testing made of ARMCO iron. Three methods of calculation were applied: Irwins approximate solution, HRR field and finite element method. The plastic zones were found to be very large under mode II and mode III loading even at the loading ...

Dynamic instabilities of fracture under biaxial strain using a phase field model

open access: yes, 2004
We present a phase field model of the propagation of fracture under plane strain. This model, based on simple physical considerations, is able to accurately reproduce the different behavior of cracks (the principle of local symmetry, the Griffith and ...
