Mode conversion via wavefront shaping

open access: yesOptics Express, 2018
In recent years, wavefront shaping has been utilized to control and correct distorted light for enhancing a bright spot, generation of a Bessel beam or darkening a complete area at the output of a scattering system. All these outcomes can be thought of as enhancing a particular mode of the output field. In this letter, we study the relation between the

Determination of mode shapes of a multiple cracked beam element and its application for free vibration analysis of a multi-span continuous beam

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2013
This article presents some results on the determination of the vibration shape function of a multiple cracked elastic beam element, which is modeled as an assembly of intact sub-segments connected by massless rotational springs.

Design of a Novel Type Micro-Stirrer Excited by Longitudinal Elastic Wave for Thrombus Dissolution

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanical Science and Engineering, 2011
This paper presents the method to design a novel micro stirrer for high effective dissolution of cerebral thrombus or blood clot. The micro stirrer is a beam with supported one side and the other side is attached to an asymmetrical stirrer.

Unstable spiral modes in disk-shaped galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1976
The mechanisms for the maintenance and the excitation of trailing spiral modes of density waves in diskshaped galaxies, as proposed by Lin in 1969 and by Mark recently, are substantiated by an analysis of the gas-dynamical model of the galaxy. The self-excitation of the unstable mode in caused by waves propagating outwards from the corotation circle ...

Effect of Pulse Shaping on Subharmonic Aided Pressure Estimation In Vitro and In Vivo. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
OBJECTIVES: Subharmonic imaging (SHI) is a technique that uses the nonlinear oscillations of microbubbles when exposed to ultrasound at high pressures transmitting at the fundamental frequency ie, f METHODS: Eight waveforms with different envelopes were ...

T-shaped mode coupler for two-mode mode division multiplexing

open access: yesIEICE Electronics Express, 2011
We propose a novel type of mode coupler consisting of two identical rectangular few-mode waveguides with different orientations. Numerical simulation indicates that mode extinction ratio exceeding 20dB can be achieved by well-aligned waveguides.

Shaping Effects on Non-Ideal Ballooning Mode [PDF]

open access: yesPlasma and Fusion Research, 2018
The dependence of shaping effects on the growth rate of collisionless and resistive ballooning mode (CBM/RBM) is numerically investigated. That of the drift ballooning modes (DCBM/DRBM) is also investigated by taking kinetic effects into account. Resistivity scans of linear growth rates of CBM/RBM and DCBM/DRBM in a circular geometry show that both ...

Mode Shape-Based Damage Detection Method (MSDI): Experimental Validation

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
The main principle of vibration-based damage detection in structures is to interpret the changes in dynamic properties of the structure as indicators of damage.

Mode Shape-Based Damage Localization in Steel Plates Using a Detection Index Based on 2D Wavelet Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Rehabilitation in Civil Engineering, 2023
Structures are subjected to a variety of environmental and loading conditions over time, and minor damage to structural elements may occur. By timely identifying damage and repairing damaged locations, it is possible to prevent the spread and development

Noise characterization of a pulse train generated by actively mode-locked lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We analyze the entire power spectrum of pulse trains generated by a continuously operating actively mode-locked laser in the presence of noise. We consider the effect of amplitude, pulse-shape, and timing-jitter fluctuations that are characterized by ...
