Fast Pedestrian Detection in Surveillance Video Based on Soft Target Training of Shallow Random Forest

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
In recent years, deep learning algorithms have achieved top performances in object detection tasks. However, in real-time, systems having memory or computing limitations very wide and deep networks with numerous parameters constitute a major obstacle. In

Compressing Transitions for Model Checking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
An optimization technique is presented that compresses a chain of transitions into a single jump transition, thus making a model smaller prior to model checking. We give compression algorithms, together with conditions that allow such compressions to preserve next-time-free LTL. Experimental results are presented and discussed.

RoundMi: A quantitative method to analyze mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
RoundMi is a workflow for rapid analysis of mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells. By combining adaptive preprocessing with automated segmentation and quantification, it enables accurate measurements from single focal plane images, reducing acquisition time and computational demands while remaining compatible with high‐throughput fixed and live ...

A numerical study on impact and compression after impact behaviour of variable angle tow laminates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Recent developments of variable angled tow (VAT) technology have indicated that variable stiffness composite laminates offer a strong potential for structural tailoring.

Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...

Instance Segmentation of Tea Garden Roads Based on an Improved YOLOv8n-seg Model

open access: yesAgriculture
In order to improve the efficiency of fine segmentation and obstacle removal in the road of tea plantation in hilly areas, a lightweight and high-precision DR-YOLO instance segmentation algorithm is proposed to realize environment awareness. Firstly, the

Small RNA pathways in mammalian oocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Three distinct small RNA pathways operate in mammalian oocytes: RNAi interference (RNAi), the microRNA (miRNA) pathway, and the PIWI‐associated RNA (piRNA) pathway. These pathways use small RNAs to guide sequence‐specific repression and contribute to oocyte biology by targeting genes and mobile elements or appear insignificant since different ...

On the role of compressibility in poroviscoelastic models

open access: yesMathematical Biosciences and Engineering, 2019
In this article we conduct an analytical study of a poroviscoelastic mixture model stemming from the classical Biot's consolidation model for poroelastic media, comprising a fluid component and a solid component, coupled with a viscoelastic stress-strain relationship for the total stress tensor.

Effect of terahertz irradiation on DNA damage repair in living cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the effect of terahertz (THz) wave irradiation on DNA double‐strand break (DSB) repair in living cells. We found that THz irradiation enhanced DSB repair at specific frequencies, whereas heat treatment inhibited it, indicating that this effect is nonthermal and frequency‐specific.

Core crush criterion to determine the strength of sandwich composite structures subjected to compression after impact [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this study a core crush criterion is proposed to determine the residual strength of impacted sandwich structures. The core of the sandwich is made of a Nomex Honeycomb core and the faces are laminated and remain thin.
