Non-linear idealisation error analysis of a metallic stiffened panel loaded in compression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The SAFESA procedure is an idealisation error control process developed for linear static finite element (FE) analysis. This paper investigates the application of this process to non-linear FE in order to provide an equivalent methodology valid for ...

ATW-SNN: low-accuracy-loss asymmetric ternary-weight spiking neural network with spike calibration strategy

open access: yesNeuromorphic Computing and Engineering
The deployment of spiking neural networks (SNNs) on resource-constrained devices is mainly limited by memory footprint and energy consumption. Specifically, these limitations stem from the overhead incurred by full-precision storage and floating-point ...

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

LICA-CS: Efficient Lossless Image Compression Algorithm via Column Subtraction Model [PDF]

open access: yes
Driven by the unprecedented amount of data generated in the last few decades, data storage and communication are becoming more challenging. Although many approaches in data compression have been developed to alleviate these challenges, more efforts are ...

Building indifferentiable compression functions from the PGV compression functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Preneel, Govaerts and Vandewalle (PGV) analysed the security of single-block-length block cipher based compression functions assuming that the underlying block cipher has no weaknesses.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Anisotropic creep model for soft soils

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper a new anisotropic model for time-dependent behaviour of soft soils is presented. The formulation is based on a previously developed isotropic creep model, assuming rotated Modified Cam Clay ellipses as contours of volumetric creep strain ...
