Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Direct Model-Predictive Control. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Due to simplicity and convenience, Model Predictive Control, which consists in optimizing future decisions based on a pessimistic deterministic forecast of the random processes, is one of the main tools for stochastic control. Yet, it suffers from a large computation time, unless the tactical horizon (i.e.

Model predictive control of a hybrid autonomous underwater vehicle with experimental verification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this work model predictive control is used to provide transit and hover capabilities for an autonomous underwater vehicle where the description of the system dynamics used include terms measured experimentally.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

A multi-model structure for model predictive control

open access: yesAnnual Reviews in Control, 2003
Abstract Model Predictive Control (MPC) is a wide popular control technique that can be applied starting from several model structures. In this paper black box models are considered. In particular it is analysed the sets of regressors that it is better to use in order to obtain the best model for multi step prediction.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Improved Distributed Model Predictive Control with Control Planning Set

open access: yesJournal of Control Science and Engineering, 2016
We focus on distributed model predictive control algorithm. Each distributed model predictive controller communicates with the others in order to compute the control sequence.

Fast model predictive control

open access: yes, 2013
This thesis develops efficient optimization methods for Model Predictive Control (MPC) to enable its application to constrained systems with fast and uncertain dynamics. The key contribution is an active set method which exploits the parametric nature of the sequential optimization problem and is obtained from a dynamic programming formulation of the ...
