Protocol for in vivo analysis of muscle function in porcine models for muscular dystrophies

open access: yesSTAR Protocols
Summary: Porcine models carrying DMD mutations recapitulate Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy (DMD and BMD), inherited disorders leading to progressive muscle weakness, with DMD presenting a far more severe and rapidly progressive phenotype ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Loneliness, social support and cardiovascular reactivity to laboratory stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Self-reported or explicit loneliness and social support have been inconsistently associated with cardiovascular reactivity (CVR) to stress. The present study aimed to adapt an implicit measure of loneliness, and use it alongside the measures of explicit ...

The role of obesity-related cardiovascular remodelling in mediating incident cardiovascular outcomes: a population-based observational study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Aims: we examined associations of obesity with incident cardiovascular outcomes and cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) phenotypes, integrating information from body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR).

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Worldwide variation in cardiovascular magnetic resonance practice models

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, 2023
Introduction The use of cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) for diagnosis and management of a broad range of cardiac and vascular conditions has quickly expanded worldwide. It is essential to understand how CMR is utilized in different regions around

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.
