A Variational Beam Model for Failure of Cellular and Truss‐Based Architected Materials
Herein, a versatile and efficient beam modeling framework is developed to predict the nonlinear response and failure of cellular, truss‐based, and woven architected materials. It enables the exploration of their design space and the optimization of their mechanical behavior in the nonlinear regime. A variational formulation of a beam model is presented

Valuation theoretic and model theoretic aspects of local uniformization [PDF]
This paper gives a survey on a valuation theoretical approach to local uniformization in positive characteristic, the model theory of valued fields in positive characteristic, and their connection with the valuation theoretical phenomenon of defect.

Stellar granulation as seen in disk-integrated intensity. I. Simplified theoretical modeling [PDF]
The solar granulation is known for a long time to be a surface manifestation of convection. Thanks to the current space-borne missions CoRoT and Kepler, it is now possible to observe in disk-integrated intensity the signature of this phenomena in a growing number of stars.

A numerical scheme is presented to design a lattice support for metallic components additively built via laser powder bed fusion. Results show that thermal‐induced distortion can be respectively reduced by 69%, 58%, and 50% in comparison to a uniform lattice, a fully solid support, and a truss‐based lattice support.

Inspired by the conundrum of the gravitational event GW190814, which brings to light the coalescence of a 23 M _⊙ black hole with a yet-to-be-determined secondary component, we look to modeling compact objects within the framework of $f({ \mathcal Q ...

Modelling Giant Radio Halos [PDF]
We review models for giant radio halos in clusters of galaxies, with a focus on numerical and theoretical work. After summarising the most important observations of these objects, we present an introduction to the theoretical aspects of hadronic models.

Euler diagrams as an introduction to set-theoretical models [PDF]
Understanding the notion of a model is not always easy in logic courses. Hence, tools such as Euler diagrams are frequently applied as informal illustrations of set-theoretical models. We formally investigate Euler diagrams as an introduction to set-theoretical models.

Generalized additive models are generalized linear models in which the linear predictor includes a sum of smooth functions of covariates, where the shape of the functions is to be estimated. They have also been generalized beyond the original generalized
