Critical light scattering in liquids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We compare theoretical results for the characteristic frequency of the Rayleigh peak calculated in one-loop order within the field theoretical method of the renormalization group theory with experiments and other theoretical results. Our expressions describe the non-asymptotic crossover in temperature, density and wave vector.

Model Organisms are Not (Theoretical) Models

open access: yesBritish Journal for the Philosophy of Science, 2015
Many biological investigations are organized around a small group of species, often referred to as ‘model organisms’, such as the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster.

Competitive Machine Learning: Best Theoretical Prediction vs Optimization [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Machine learning is often used in competitive scenarios: Participants learn and fit static models, and those models compete in a shared platform. The common assumption is that in order to win a competition one has to have the best predictive model, i.e., the model with the smallest out-sample error. Is that necessarily true?

T2‐weighted imaging of rectal cancer using a 3D fast spin echo sequence with and without deep learning reconstruction: A reader study

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To compare image quality and clinical utility of a T2‐weighted (T2W) 3‐dimensional (3D) fast spin echo (FSE) sequence using deep learning reconstruction (DLR) versus conventional reconstruction for rectal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Contextually indexed contextual categories [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
In this paper, we define a generalization of indexed categories and contextual categories which we call contextually indexed (contextual) categories. While contextual categories are models of ordinary type theories, contextually indexed (contextual) categories are models of indexed type theories.

Assessing HyperSight iterative CBCT for dose calculation in online adaptive radiotherapy for pelvis and breast patients compared to synthetic CT

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose/objectives Recent technological advancements have increased efficiency for clinical deliverability of online‐adaptive‐radiotherapy (oART). Previous cone‐beam‐computed‐tomography (CBCT) generations lacked the ability to provide reliable Hounsfield‐units (HU), thus requiring oART workflows to rely on synthetic‐CT (sCT) images derived ...
