Model Selection for Explosive Models [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Econometrics, Vol. 41, 2020, pp. 73-103, 2017
This paper examines the limit properties of information criteria (such as AIC, BIC, HQIC) for distinguishing between the unit root model and the various kinds of explosive models. The explosive models include the local-to-unit-root model, the mildly explosive model and the regular explosive model.

Fisetin may protect early porcine embryos from oxidative stress by down-regulating GRP78 levels [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
Fisetin is a natural flavonol with a variety of biological activities, including anti-inflammatory and antitumor activities. However, the effect of fisetin on mammalian oocyte and embryo development is unknown, so in this study, we used porcine oocytes ...

Non Proportional Odds Models are Widely Dispensable -- Sparser Modeling based on Parametric and Additive Location-Shift Approaches [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The potential of location-shift models to find adequate models between the proportional odds model and the non-proportional odds model is investigated. It is demonstrated that these models are very useful in ordinal modeling. While proportional odds models are often too simple, non proportional odds models are typically unnecessary complicated and seem

Population and species neighbor identity impact trait–trait relationships and plant performance

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We evaluated how populations and species identity influence plant performance and trait outcomes in mixtures, and assessed trait variation among populations of two forb species native to the western United States (Dieteria canescens and Heterotheca villosa) following three interaction treatments (single‐population monoculture, two‐population mixture ...

Supermatrix Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We investigate several matrix models based on super Lie algebras, osp(1|32,R), u(1|16,16) and gl(1|32,R). They are natural generalizations of IIB matrix model and were first proposed by Smolin.

Revisiting a quarter of a century of simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV)-associated cardiovascular diseases at the German Primate Center [PDF]

open access: yesPrimate Biology, 2017
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) comorbidities have become clinically more important due to antiretroviral therapy. Although therapy increases life expectancy, it does not completely suppress immune activation and its associated complications.

Prospects for Declarative Mathematical Modeling of Complex Biological Systems [PDF]

open access: yesBull. Math. Biol. (2019), 2018
Declarative modeling uses symbolic expressions to represent models. With such expressions one can formalize high-level mathematical computations on models that would be difficult or impossible to perform directly on a lower-level simulation program, in a general-purpose programming language.

Effects of chronic browsing on life‐history traits of an irruptive large herbivore population

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study aimed to determine the relationship between diet quality, body mass, and size (hind foot length), and female reproduction and sought to identify the mechanism by which high density under severe food limitations is maintained. Our results demonstrated that sika deer introduced to Nakanoshima Island have maintained high densities through high ...

Comparative Analysis of Machine Learning Models for Predicting Travel Time [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
In this paper, five different deep learning models are being compared for predicting travel time. These models are autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model, recurrent neural network (RNN) model, autoregressive (AR) model, Long-short term memory (LSTM) model, and gated recurrent units (GRU) model.

Combining transient dynamics and logistic‐asymptotic growth to study the recovery of two seabird populations after rat eradication

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examines the demographic dynamics of two seabird populations on Tromelin Island, 15 years after the eradication of brown rats. The results indicate that these populations are in good health and are expected to continue growing until breeding sites are saturated in about a century.
