Open-graded asphalt concrete grouted by latex modified cement mortar

Road Materials and Pavement Design, 2018
In order to improve the anti-rutting ability of grouted open-graded asphalt concrete (GOAC) for semi-flexible pavement, latex modified cement mortar was introduced in this study.

Fatigue Property Analysis of Modified Asphalt Emulsion-Cement Cold Recycling Mixtures

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
The fatigue property of rectangular section beam for semi-flexible cold recycling mixtures has been analyzed basing on damage-fracture mechanics principles. Fatigue models of rectangular section beam have been put forward respectively, which includes both macroscopic cracks appearance and propagation process.

Performance comparison of asphalt emulsion stabilized granular base modified with cement or asphaltenes

Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 2022
Asphalt emulsion is a common material used for pavement base course stabilization, and cement is usually added as an active filler to improve the stability of asphalt emulsion mixtures further. However, using cement in these mixes has several drawbacks, including high material costs and environmental issues.

Characterization of Asphalt Cements Modified with Crumb Rubber from Discarded Tires

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 1997
Blends with up to 20 percent ground vulcanized rubber (both crumb and 200-mesh powder particles) from recycled tires were prepared with asphalt cements of various grades (AC-5 to AC-30) and evaluated using dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Blends produced from powdered rubber particles exhibited Newtonian behavior at high temperatures.

Physical and rheological properties of acrylate–styrene–acrylonitrile modified asphalt cement

Construction and Building Materials, 2015
Abstract Polymer-modified asphalt cement (PMAC) has been used in the last few decades to mitigate several root causes of asphalt-cement failures. Furthermore, it has been proved that polymers used as asphalt-cement modifiers had significant influence on the properties of asphalt at low and high temperatures. The primary objective of this study was to

Physical Properties of Tall Oil Pitch Modified Asphalt Cement Binders

1995
In recent years, significant advances in asphalt modifications have been achieved, particularly in the field of polymer modified asphalt cement binders. Concurrently, environmental concerns and recycling processes are becoming a part of our everyday life. Tall oil pitch (TOP) is a by-product of the kraft process in the pulp and paper industry.

Micromechanical shear modulus modeling of activated crumb rubber modified asphalt cements

Construction and Building Materials, 2017
Abstract The rheological properties of three asphalt cements containing reacted and activated rubber (RAR) are evaluated to quantify the relative effects of swelling, splitting, and absorption. Rheological testing and electron microscopy are used to measure the dynamic shear modulus, |G∗|, and rubber particle changes respectively. It is found that |G∗

Investigation of the effects of different polymer-modified asphalt cements on asphalt mixes at low temperature

Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 2007
The extreme environmental conditions in Canada require the use of asphalt cement that can provide a high resistance to low-temperature cracking during the winter season and a high resistance to rutting due to the elevated temperatures in the summer.

Multiple scaling investigation of magnesium phosphate cement modified by emulsified asphalt for rapid repair of asphalt mixture pavement

Construction and Building Materials, 2014
Abstract This study aims to evaluate the performance of magnesium phosphate cement and emulsified asphalt combination (MPC–EA) on the scale of paste, mortar and concrete, respectively. Experimental results indicated that the emulsified asphalt was more efficient in extending the setting time (from 10 to 90 min) than traditional retarders (borax and ...

Experimental Study on APP Modified Asphalt Felt Used as Interlayer between Old Cement Concrete Pavement and Asphalt Overlay

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
To study the mechanisms and effects of atactic polypropylene (APP) modified asphalt felt preventing crack, which is used as interlayer between old cement concrete pavement and asphalt overlay, authors carried through the tests of level tension, field road, and direct shearing.
