Wave propagation in a microbeam based on the modified couple stress theory

open access: yesStructural Engineering and Mechanics, 2013
This paper presents responses of the free end of a cantilever micro beam under the effect of an impact force based on the modified couple stress theory. The beam is excited by a transverse triangular force impulse modulated by a harmonic motion. The Kelvin–Voigt model for the material of the beam is used.

A Timoshenko beam element based on the modified couple stress theory

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 2014
Abstract Since the classical continuum theory is neither able to evaluate the accurate stiffness nor able to justify the size-dependency of micro-scale structures, the non-classical continuum theories such as the modified couple stress theory have been developed.

Static pull-in analysis of microcantilevers based on the modified couple stress theory

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2011
Abstract This paper investigates the deflection and static pull-in voltage of microcantilevers based on the modified couple stress theory, a non-classic continuum theory capable to predict the size effects for structures in micron and sub-micron scales. It is shown that the couple stress theory can remove the gap between the experimental observations

Torsional vibrations of restrained nanotubes using modified couple stress theory

open access: yesMicrosystem Technologies, 2018
In the current study, torsional vibration analysis of carbon nano tubes with general elastic boundary conditions is presented via modified couple stress theory. The model developed based on modified couple stress theory gives us opportunity to interpret small size effect.

Vibration analysis of microscale plates based on modified couple stress theory

Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica, 2010
Abstract A non-classical Kirchhoff plate model is developed for the dynamic analysis of microscale plates based on the modified couple stress theory in which an internal material length scale parameter is included. Unlike the classical Kirchhoff plate model, the newly developed model can capture the size effect of microscale plates.

BENDING ANALYSIS OF DOUBLE VISCOELASTIC NANOPLATES BASED ON THE MODIFIED COUPLE STRESS THEORY AND RELAXATION THEORY

Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 2022
The bending analysis of a viscoelastic double nanoplate system is performed. The analysis is based on the modified couple stress theory and relaxation theory. An analytical solution for the transverse relative deflection of two nanoplates is obtained with help of Navier's method. The influence of geometrical and physical factors on the bending behavior

A NONLOCAL CURVED BEAM MODEL BASED ON A MODIFIED COUPLE STRESS THEORY

International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, 2011
A nonlocal Timoshenko curved beam model is developed using a modified couple stress theory and Hamilton's principle. The model contains a material length scale parameter that can capture the size effect, unlike the classical Timoshenko beam theory. Both bending and axial deformations are considered, and the Poisson effect is incorporated in the model.
