Thermoelastic Vibrations of Timoshenko Microbeams (Modified Couple Stress Theory)
2020Thermoelastic vibrations of the Timoshenko microbeams based on the modified couple stress theory are studied. In particular, the dependence of the quality factor of nonlinear microbeam resonators under thermoelastic damping for Timoshenko beams with regard to geometric nonlinearity is analyzed.

Numerical evaluation of beam models based on the modified couple stress theory
Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures, 2020An error in the beam model proposed by Lam, Yang, Chong, Wang, & Tong (2003) for the modified couple stress theory is found and corrected, and then the corrected model is verified by the finite ele...

Modeling and analysis of microtubules based on a modified couple stress theory
Physica E: Low-dimensional Systems and Nanostructures, 2010Based on a modified couple stress theory, a new Timoshenko beam model is established to address the size effect of microtubules (MTs) in this paper. The bending equation and the buckling equation are derived from the minimum total potential energy principle.

Bernoulli–Euler beam model based on a modified couple stress theory
Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering, 2006A new model for the bending of a Bernoulli–Euler beam is developed using a modified couple stress theory. A variational formulation based on the principle of minimum total potential energy is employed. The new model contains an internal material length scale parameter and can capture the size effect, unlike the classical Bernoulli–Euler beam model. The

A Size-Dependent Beam Element Based on the Modified Couple Stress Theory
Volume 8: Mechanics of Solids, Structures and Fluids; Vibration, Acoustics and Wave Propagation, 2011In this paper, the modified couple stress theory is employed to develop a size-dependent beam element able to predict the size-dependency observed in microbeams. The stiffness matrix is obtained for the aforementioned beam element. As an example, the deflection of a microcantilever is evaluated using the proposed beam elements and the results of the ...

Micromechanical Modeling of Honeycomb Structures Based on a Modified Couple Stress Theory
Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures, 2008A micromechanics model is developed for hexagonal honeycomb structures by using a modified couple stress theory. The formulation is based on structural analysis of repeating units and a homogenization procedure. Both bending and axial deformations of cell walls are considered here, unlike earlier models.

Investigation of the Photothermal Excited Microcantilevers Based on Modified Couple Stress Theory
International Journal of Thermophysics, 2019In microscale and sub-micron scale, scale effect highlights and the classical continuum mechanics cannot describe microstructure-dependent size effects. So many non-classical theories were put forward. The modified couple stress theory was established by introducing a material parameter to characterize the scale effect.
