Dark Energy vs. Modified Gravity

open access: yes, 2016
Understanding the reason for the observed accelerated expansion of the Universe represents one of the fundamental open questions in physics. In cosmology, a classification has emerged among physical models for the acceleration, distinguishing between ...

Gauge Theory Correlators from Non-Critical String Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We suggest a means of obtaining certain Green's functions in 3+1-dimensional ${\cal N} = 4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with a large number of colors via non-critical string theory. The non-critical string theory is related to critical string theory

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Linear free vibration of micro-/nano-plates with cut-out in thermal environment via modified couple stress theory and Ritz method

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal, 2018
This article aims to study the natural frequency of defective micro-/nano-plates because not only the existence of cut-outs in plates may be essential on the basis of their desired functionality but also the resonant frequency can be changed by cut-outs.

Aspects of hot Galilean field theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We reconsider general aspects of Galilean-invariant thermal field theory. Using the proposal of our companion paper, we recast non-relativistic hydrodynamics in a manifestly covariant way and couple it to a background spacetime.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Vibration and buckling of orthotropic functionally graded micro-plates on the basis of a re-modified couple stress theory

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2017
A microstructure-dependent model for the free vibration and buckling analysis of an orthotropic functionally graded micro-plate was proposed on the basis of a re-modified couple stress theory.

Magnetohydrodynamics and viscosity variation in couple stress squeeze film lubrication between rough flat and curved circular plates

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
A simplified mathematical model has been developed for understanding combined effects of surface roughness, viscosity variation and couple stresses on the squeeze film behaviour of a flat and a curved circular plate in the presence of transverse magnetic

β‐TrCP overexpression enhances cisplatin sensitivity by depleting BRCA1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low levels of β‐TrCP (Panel A) allow the accumulation of BRCA1 and CtIP, which facilitate the repair of cisplatin‐induced DNA damage via homologous recombination (HR) and promote tumor cell survival. In contrast, high β‐TrCP expression (Panel B) leads to BRCA1 and CtIP degradation, impairing HR repair, resulting in persistent DNA damage and apoptosis ...

Numerical study of size-dependent instability of nems considering molecular force and elastic support conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Nano-electromechanical systems (NEMS) sensors are recently used as powerful medical detectors for detection of disease. In this research paper, the modified couple stress non-classic continuum theory is applied to examine the size effect on the pull-in ...
