Prognosis of Long‐Term Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy and the Impact of Combined Continuous Intravenous Sodium Infusion Therapy

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients requiring long‐term continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) generally have poor prognoses. This study evaluated whether adding continuous intravenous sodium infusion (cIVNa) is associated with improved hemodynamics and outcomes in patients undergoing long‐term CRRT for ≥ 7 days.

Bounds and algorithms for the K-Bessel function of imaginary order [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Using the paths of steepest descent, we prove precise bounds with numerical implied constants for the modified Bessel function of imaginary order and its first two derivatives with respect to the order.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Harmonic Mixture-G Family of Distributions: Survival Regression, Simulation by Likelihood, Bootstrap and Bayesian Discussion with MCMC Algorithm

open access: yesAustrian Journal of Statistics, 2022
To study the heterogeneous nature of lifetimes of certain mechanical or engineering processes, a mixture model of some suitable lifetime distributions may be more appropriate and appealing than simpler models.

Truncation error bounds for modified continued fractions with applications to special functions

open access: yesNumerische Mathematik, 1989
Let \(K(a_ n,1;x_ 1)\) be a limit-periodic modified continued fraction with \(\lim_{n\to \infty}a_ n=a\in {\mathbb{C}}-(-\infty,1/4)\) and n-th approximant \[ g_ n=S_ n(x_ 1)=a_ 1/1+a_ 2/1+...+a_{n- 1}/1+a_ n/(1+x_ 1), \] where \(x_ 1\) denotes the smaller (in modulus) of the two fixed points of \(T(w)=a/(1+w).\) Further, let \(f_ n=S_ n(0)\) be the n ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Valorization of trout skins for a circular bioeconomy: Ecological leather production and anaerobic co-digestion of tanning effluents with trout byproducts (Morocco)

open access: yesEnvironmental Challenges
With growing environmental concerns, sustainable alternatives in the leather industry are crucial. This study explores the potential of trout skins as a raw material to produce ecological leather and evaluates the biodegradability of the co-digestion of ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Assessment of Right Heart Function during Extracorporeal Therapy by Modified Thermodilution in a Porcine Model.

open access: yes, 2020
BACKGROUND Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation therapy is a growing treatment modality for acute cardiorespiratory failure. Cardiac output monitoring during veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation therapy remains challenging ...
