Fouling of dairy components on hydrophobic polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membranes for membrane distillation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This study investigates fouling of membranes during membrane distillation (MD) of two model dairy feeds — skim milk and whey, as well as their major single components.

Farnesyltransferase Deficiency in Cardiomyocytes Initiates Senescence and Contributes to Cardiac Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lipid overload suppresses SREBF2‐mediated FNTB expression, leading to defective Lamin A maturation and nuclear envelope instability. This nuclear catastrophe triggers a pro‐fibrotic senescence program in cardiomyocytes. Notably, restoring nuclear integrity via AAV9‐based gene therapy effectively attenuates cardiac remodeling, identifying the ...

Integrated ultrafiltration and pervaporation process using PDMS/ZnO-modified PSf nanohybrid membranes for enhanced bioethanol purification from fermentation broth

open access: yesCase Studies in Chemical and Environmental Engineering
Bioethanol is a promising alternative to fossil fuels, but its separation from water remains challenging due to the presence of the azeotropic point.

Endocytic Control of Cell‐Autonomous and Non‐Cell‐Autonomous Functions of p53

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
NUMB Ex3‐containing isoforms localize to the plasma membrane, where they recruit p53 through SNX9 and direct it to multivesicular bodies and exosomes. Exported p53 is taken up by neighboring cells and activates nuclear programs, revealing an intercellular, exosome‐based pathway that might help establish a tumor‐suppressive microenvironment.

Veno-Arterial Modified Ultrafiltration in Children after Cardiopulmonary Bypass

open access: yesThe Journal of ExtraCorporeal Technology, 1999
A method of performing veno-arterial modified ultrafiltration is described that utilizes conventional blood flow through the aortic and venous cannulae. A dual-pump blood cardioplegia console is adapted to aspirate blood from the cardiopulmonary bypass venous line.

ADP-dependent Phosphofructokinases in Mesophilic and Thermophilic Methanogenic Archaea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Phosphofructokinase (PFK) is a key enzyme of the glycolytic pathway in all domains of life. Two related PFKs, ATP-dependent and PPi-dependent PFK, have been distinguished in bacteria and eucarya, as well as in some archaea.

Discovery of SKP2‐Recruiting PROTACs for Target Protein Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Based on the SKP2‐targeting ligand SL1, we designed non‐covalent PROTACs by linking it with the BRD4 inhibitor JQ1 and the AR antagonist AL through a linker. These PROTACs successfully induced the ubiquitination of BRD4 and AR, followed by proteasome‐mediated degradation.

Properties of polyethersulfone ultrafiltration membranes modified with polyethylene glycols

open access: yesPolymer Engineering & Science, 2013
Polyethersulfone ultrafiltration membranes have been prepared using polyethylene glycols (PEGs) of 400, 1000, and 10,000 gmol, as additive with dimethylacetamide as solvent. Infrared analysis proves that PEG leaves almost completely the surface of the membranes after 24 h of water immersion.
