Digital Light Processing of 2D Lattice Composites for Tunable Self‐Sensing and Mechanical Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
The study presents the mechanical and in situ sensing performance of digital light processing‐enabled 2D lattice nanocomposites under monotonic tensile and repeated cyclic loading, and provides guidelines for the design of architectures suitable for strain sensors and smart lightweight structures.

Creep Characterization of Inconel 718 Lattice Metamaterials Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
Herein, the creep characteristics of additively manufactured Inconel 718 metamaterials are investigated. The creep behavior of metamaterials and the effects of microstructural defects are assessed, and the microstructure defects are accurately captured using Kachanov's creep damage model.

Conceptual Design and Parametric Optimization of a New Multileveled Horsetail Structure for Bicycle Helmets

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
This study aims to explore the feasibility of using a structure inspired by the features of horsetail and human spine as the potential helmet liner, targeting at mitigation of acceleration‐induced injuries. A parametric study is conducted to investigate the effect of individual geometrical variables in the design, indicating its capability to reduce ...

Flexural Behavior of Bidirectionally Graded Lattice

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
An experimental study of the bending behavior of bidirectional body‐centered cubic lattice beams is conducted in comparison to uniform and unidirectional counterparts of electron beam melted SS 316 L. Experimental results are used to develop and validate a finite element model which is subsequently used to conduct parametric studies to assess the ...

A Variational Beam Model for Failure of Cellular and Truss‐Based Architected Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
Herein, a versatile and efficient beam modeling framework is developed to predict the nonlinear response and failure of cellular, truss‐based, and woven architected materials. It enables the exploration of their design space and the optimization of their mechanical behavior in the nonlinear regime. A variational formulation of a beam model is presented

Architected Lattices with a Topological Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
This article develops topological metamaterials showing multidirectional two‐step deformation under compression by embedding contact‐enabled topological mechanisms into lattice structures. Experiments on 3D‐printed 2D and 3D lattices and finite element simulations are conducted to demonstrate the working principle of the topological metamaterials.

A calculus for the moduli space of curves [PDF]

open access: yesAlgebraic Geometry, 2016
This article accompanies my lecture at the 2015 AMS summer institute in algebraic geometry in Salt Lake City. I survey the recent advances in the study of tautological classes on the moduli spaces of curves. After discussing the Faber-Zagier relations on

Moduli spaces for PT-regularized solitons

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2022
We construct and analyse the moduli space (collective coordinates) for a classical field theory in 1 + 1 dimensions that possesses complex stable multi-soliton solutions with real energies when PT-regularized.

Wonderful compactifications and rational curves with cyclic action

open access: yesForum of Mathematics, Sigma, 2023
We prove that the moduli space of rational curves with cyclic action, constructed in our previous work, is realizable as a wonderful compactification of the complement of a hyperplane arrangement in a product of projective spaces.

THE MODULI SPACE OF TWISTED CANONICAL DIVISORS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Institute of Mathematics of Jussieu, 2015
The moduli space of canonical divisors (with prescribed zeros and poles) on nonsingular curves is not compact since the curve may degenerate. We define a proper moduli space of twisted canonical divisors in $\overline{{\mathcal{M}}}_{g,n}$ which includes
