Population of Nonmetallic Inclusions in Liquid High‐Silicon Electrical Steel in Contact With MgO–C Refractories Based on Recyclates and Environmentally Friendly Binders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The formation of nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) was investigated in this study, carrying out immersion tests for 30 min at a temperature of 1600°C with liquid high‐silicon electrical steel (Si ≈ 3 mass‐%) and different MgO–C refractories. Conventional MgO–C refractories were considered, as well as MgO–C refractories containing MgO–C recyclate and ...

Maturity effects in concrete dams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Model equations for determining the coupled heat, moisture and maturity changes within a concrete block are introduced and briefly examined. Preliminary results are obtained for the heat exchange between concrete slabs in contact driven by maturity ...

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Modeling nonlinear moisture diffusion in inhomogeneous media

open access: yesMicroelectronics Reliability, 2017
While moisture diffusion in microelectronic device and packaging has been studied for decades, the problems involving complex nonlinear moisture diffusion in multi-material assembly have not been fully studied. This paper has developed a general nonlinear diffusion model by adopting water activity, a continuous state variable, as the field variable ...

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Corrosion and Process Analysis of a Preoxidized MgO Recyclate‐Based Cermet Anode in Laboratory‐Scale Na‐Cryolite Molten Salt Electrolysis of Aluminum at 1000°C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
EDX elemental map of the pre‐oxidized MgO–steel cermet anode cross section after electrolysis. The development of inert anodes for aluminum electrolysis remains challenging due to the high corrosivity of cryolite‐based melts at 950°C–1000°C. This study investigates the corrosion and process behavior of a carbon‐free MgO–steel cermet anode derived from ...

Moisture diffusion within shredded tobacco leaves.

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1985
The mechanism of moisture transfer into shredded tobacco was investigated in connection with moistening process control in cigarette manufacturing. For shredded tobaccos of less than about 1.0 mm shred width, the moisture was sorbed mainly through the cut faces rather than through the leaf epidermis, indicating that the moisture diffusion within the ...
