Predicting soil moisture conditions for arable free draining soils in Ireland under spring cereal crop production

open access: yes, 2010
peer-reviewedTemporal prediction of soil moisture and evapotranspiration has a crucial role in agricultural and environmental management. A lack of Irish models for predicting evapotranspiration and soil moisture conditions for arable soils still ...

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Quantifying and evaluating the risk posed to straw bale constructions from moisture

open access: yes, 2014
The level of moisture a construction is exposed to may have an adverse effect on health and structure. Using straw, an organic material, as the construction medium, introduces concerns about biodegradability and spore germination, highlighting the ...

What are the moisture sources of the increasing Great Lakes Region precipitation?

open access: yes, 2022
The largest freshwater system on earth is experiencing all-time high water-levels in recent years. In this study, we used an extended version of the Dynamic Recycling Model (DRM) to identify moisture sources of the Great Lakes Region (GLR) and quantified

Removing Oxide Layers and Retaining Oxide‐Free Steel Surfaces by Polishing in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the efficacy of wet mechanical polishing under an oxygen‐free atmosphere for deoxidation and the retention of an oxide‐free steel surface are elucidated using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methodology proved successful; however, the results were highly dependent on the preparation of the solvents used to clean the samples after ...

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.

Tracking the Origin of Moisture over the Danube River Basin Using a Lagrangian Approach

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2016
In this study, we investigate the sources of moisture (and moisture for precipitation) over the Danube River Basin (DRB) by means of a Lagrangian approach using the FLEXPART V9.0 particle dispersion model together with ERA-Interim reanalysis data to ...

Lagrangian detection of moisture sources for the Southern Patagonia Icefield

open access: yes, 2017
The moisture source of the Southern Patagonia Icefield (SPI) and its transport is not yet fully understood. It has a large impact on the stable isotope composition of the SPI, adjacent lakes and nearby vegetation, and is hard to quantify from ...

Equilibrium and dynamic moisture adsorption behaviour of bloodmeal based bioplastic

open access: yes, 2013
Bioplastics can be manufactured from protein or carbohydrate sources such as wheat gluten, corn, sun flower, keratin, casein, soy, gelatine and whey. A recently developed bioplastic is Novatein thermoplastic (NTP), which is produced from bloodmeal by ...

Decline in terrestrial moisture sources of the mississippi river basin in a future climate

open access: yes, 2020
Assessment of the impact of climate change on water resources over land requires knowledge on the origin of the precipitation and changes therein toward the future.
