Demystifying fungal systematics: A gateway to fungal literacy and societal/ecological relevance through familiar species

open access: yesPlants, People, Planet
Societal Impact Statement Fungal systematics can feel overwhelming given the vast species diversity within this kingdom, with numerous subgroups at every taxonomic rank.

Screening of riboflavin kinase activity in microorganisms

open access: yesБіологічні студії, 2009
The riboflavin kinase activity was measured in different species of bacteria, yeasts and molds. The activity of enzyme in eucaryotic microorganisms was mainly higher comparing to procaryotes.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Tools made of ice facilitate forming of soft, sticky materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Tools made of ice facilitate the forming or shaping of materials that are soft and sticky in the uncured state. The low-temperature of the ice slows the curing of the material, extending the working time available before setup.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Die casting thermal diffusion study using the Rao and Schumacher theory [PDF]

open access: yesFME Transactions
This study investigates the cooling process' efficiency in high-pressure diecasting molds, focusing on key parameters such as the thermal conductivity of the mold material, the cooling channels' diameter, the distance between the channels, and the ...

Optimization of the bi-oleothermal treatment process for wood preservation and fireproofing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The bi-oleothermal© process (combination of oil and heat treatment) is a well mastered alternative method for wood protection. However, the fire behavior and resistance to decay of bi-oleothermally treated wood are not good enough to ensure performance ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Modeling Compressible Non-Newtonian Chicken Flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper addresses a few modeling issues relevant for the basic theoretical understanding of the meat flow behavior in simple geometries. We model the meat mixture as a non-Newtonian compressible fluid.
