Genome Stability Maintenance in Naked Mole-Rat [PDF]

open access: yesActa Naturae, 2017
The naked mole-rat (Heterocephalus glaber) is one of the most promising models used to study genome maintenance systems, including the effective repair of damage to DNA. The naked mole-rat is the longest lived rodent species, which is extraordinarily resistant to cancer and has a number of other unique phenotypic traits.

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.

Positive effect of a diggable substrate on the behaviour of a captive naked mole rat colony

open access: yesScientific Reports
Naked mole rats (Heterocephalus galber) are eusocial mammals from East Africa. Their extraordinary social organisation is accompanied by remarkable adaptations to an underground lifestyle, extreme longevity and resistance to many diseases, making naked ...

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

A scanning electron microscopic studies on the podocytes of the kidneys of rat (rattus norvegicus) and blind mole rat (spalax leucodon) [PDF]

open access: yesEurasian Journal of Veterinary Sciences
Aim: Blind mole rats can live in tunnels which are goosed by them underground, in environments that have quite low-oxygen ratio. Contrary most rodents, they can carry out high levels of metabolic rate under these conditions.

Corrosion and Process Analysis of a Preoxidized MgO Recyclate‐Based Cermet Anode in Laboratory‐Scale Na‐Cryolite Molten Salt Electrolysis of Aluminum at 1000°C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
EDX elemental map of the pre‐oxidized MgO–steel cermet anode cross section after electrolysis. The development of inert anodes for aluminum electrolysis remains challenging due to the high corrosivity of cryolite‐based melts at 950°C–1000°C. This study investigates the corrosion and process behavior of a carbon‐free MgO–steel cermet anode derived from ...

Histological and ultrastructural analyses of mole rats lung cells exposed to ultraviolet radiation

open access: yesJournal of Radiation Research and Applied Sciences, 2014
The purpose of this study was to investigate the ultrastructural effects of ultraviolet C radiation on the lung cells of mole rats. Mole rats were divided into controlled and experiment groups. Controlled group did not receive any radiation.
