Integration of circadian and hypoxia signaling via non‐canonical heterodimerization

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CLOCK, BMAL1, and HIFs are basic helix‐loop‐helix and Per‐Arnt‐Sim domain (bHLH‐PAS) proteins, which function as transcription factors. bHLH‐PAS proteins are designated in two classes. Many class I proteins are regulated by environmental signals via their PAS domains, but such signals have not been identified for all.

Protocol for preparing monosodium urate crystals for in vitro and in vivo studies in mouse and human cells

open access: yesSTAR Protocols
Summary: Gout is caused by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals (MSUc) in the joints, triggering a unique inflammatory and metabolic response in macrophages.

Substrate specificity of Burkholderia pseudomallei multidrug transporters is influenced by the hydrophilic patch in the substrate‐binding pocket

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Multidrug transporters BpeB and BpeF from the Gram‐negative pathogen Burkholderia pseudomallei have a hydrophilic patch in their substrate‐binding pocket. Drug susceptibility tests and growth curve analyses using an Escherichia coli recombinant expression system revealed that the hydrophilic patches of BpeB and BpeF are involved in the substrate ...

Circ-CIMIRC inhibition alleviates CIH-induced myocardial damage via FbxL4-mediated ubiquitination of PINK1

open access: yesiScience
Summary: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common sleep disordered breathing diseases that characterized by chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH). This work aimed to explore the role of circ-CIMIRC in CIH-induced myocardial injury.

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

Building Block and Building Rule: Dual Descriptor Method for Biological Sequence Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The emergence of “Systems Biology” in recent years highlights the systematic viewpoint of bio-system modeling. Building on such a background, Dual Descriptor Method, a generic methodology for biological sequence analysis is proposed. From a
