Screening natural oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) populations using SSR markers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The assessment of genetic diversity and genetic structure of natural oil palm populations is carried out mostly for crop improvement purpose. A set of 16 microsatellite markers was used to genotype 494 palms from 49 populations belonging to ten African ...

Experimental harvesting of fish populations drives genetically based shifts in body size and maturation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Size-selective harvesting in commercial fisheries can induce rapid changes in biological traits. While experimental and wild harvested populations often exhibit clear shifts in body size and maturation associated with fishing pressure, the relative ...

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Economic Impact Analysis of Marker-Assisted Breeding in Rice [PDF]

open access: yes
The benefits of developing and releasing salinity-tolerant and phosphorous-deficiency-tolerant rice in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and the Philippines were estimated for marker-assisted breeding as compared to conventional breeding using economic ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Ethylene promotes pectin degradation and fruit softening by negatively regulating PavSPL7 in sweet cherry (Prunus avium)

open access: yesHorticulture Advances
Fruit softening significantly impacts the shelf-life and economic value of fruits. Sweet cherries (Prunus avium L.) are particularly prone to damage during transportation due to softening.

Unraveling Allelic Impacts on Pre-Harvest Sprouting Resistance in TaVP1-B of Chinese Wheat Accessions Using Pan-Genome

open access: yesPlants
The TaVP1-B gene, located on the 3B chromosome of wheat, is a homolog of the Viviparous-1 (VP-1) gene of maize and was reported to confer resistance to pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) in wheat.

Impact of Climate Change on Crops Adaptation and Strategies to Tackle Its Outcome: A Review

open access: yesPlants, 2019
Agriculture and climate change are internally correlated with each other in various aspects, as climate change is the main cause of biotic and abiotic stresses, which have adverse effects on the agriculture of a region.
