Hiv-2 molecular epidemiology

open access: yesInfection, Genetics and Evolution, 2016
The Simian Immunodeficiency Virus of sooty mangabeys (SIVsmm) has been revealed to be at the origin of Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 2 (HIV-2) in humans, firstly detected from two Portuguese patients in 1986. HIV-2 is mainly restricted to West Africa where it infects up to 1 to 2 million people.

Biopsychosocial determinants of hand function and its trajectories over five years in patients with hand osteoarthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objectives This study aimed to investigate hand function trajectories over 5 years in primary hand osteoarthritis. Additionally, determinants of baseline and longitudinal hand function were assessed. Methods 538 patients with both baseline and 5‐year study visits were analyzed.

Molecular Epidemiology

open access: yes, 2009
Molecular epidemiology is now an established discipline in epidemiology.(1) It is the contemporary stage in the evolution of laboratory-based epidemiology that may have begun with the discovery in the late 1800s of ways to differentiate bacterial organisms by pure culture in artificial media.(2) Molecular epidemiology uses new molecular biology tools ...

Clinical, histological, and serological predictors of renal function loss in lupus nephritis.

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Kidney survival is the ultimate goal in lupus nephritis (LN) management, but long‐term predictors remain inadequately studied, requiring long‐term follow‐up. This study aimed to identify baseline and early longitudinal predictors of kidney survival in the Accelerating Medicines Partnership LN longitudinal cohort.

A network analysis to identify mediators of germline-driven differences in breast cancer prognosis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Identifying the underlying genetic drivers of the heritability of breast cancer prognosis remains elusive. We adapt a network-based approach to handle underpowered complex datasets to provide new insights into the potential function of germline variants ...
