Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Behaviours of natural organic matter in membrane filtration for surface water treatment : a review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Membrane application in surface water treatment provides many advantages over conventional treatment. However, this effort is hampered by the fouling issue, which restricts its widespread application due to increases in hydraulic resistances, operational

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Superspace crystallography: a key to the chemistry and properties

open access: yesIUCrJ, 2015
An overview is given of the recent advances in the field of modulated molecular and inorganic crystals with an emphasis on the links between incommensurability, intermolecular and interatomic interactions and, wherever possible, the properties of the ...

On the intrinsic dynamic nature of the rigid UiO-66 metal-organic framework [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
UiO-66 is a showcase example of an extremely stable metal-organic framework, which maintains its structural integrity during activation processes such as linker exchange and dehydration.

Dietary nitrate and nitrite protect against doxorubicin‐induced cardiac fibrosis and oxidative protein damage in tumor‐bearing mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapies such as doxorubicin can have toxic effects on healthy cardiovascular/heart tissue. Following up on a doxorubicin toxicity study in mice without tumors where nitrate water was cardioprotective (lessened toxicity), this study with tumor‐bearing mice undergoing doxorubicin treatment showed no negative effect of nitrate and nitrite on drug ...

Conformational Dynamics of metallo-β-lactamase CcrA during Catalysis Investigated by Using DEER Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Previous crystallographic and mutagenesis studies have implicated the role of a position-conserved hairpin loop in the metallo-β-lactamases in substrate binding and catalysis.

Diabetes‐induced vascular calcification is associated with low pyrophosphate and its oral supplementation prevents calcification in diabetic mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Induction of diabetes in three different mouse strains uniformly resulted in an increase in TNAP activity and a reduction in pyrophosphate (PPi) in the circulation. Inhibition of TNAP restored plasma PPi. Diabetes‐induced calcification in the media layer of the aorta was detected only in the Abcc6−/− strain, which is predisposed to ectopic ...

Surprisingly Fast Interface and Elbow Angle Dynamics of Antigen-Binding Fragments

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2020
Fab consist of a heavy and light chain and can be subdivided into a variable (VH and VL) and a constant region (CH1 and CL). The variable region contains the complementarity-determining region (CDR), which is formed by six hypervariable loops, shaping ...

Comparison of MRI properties between multimeric DOTAGA and DO3A gadolinium-dendron conjugates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The inherent lack of sensitivity of MRI needs the development of new Gd contrast agents in order to extend 20Hz,37%, the application of this technique to cellular imaging.
