The Journal of Pain, 2000
Our understanding of chronic inflammatory and neuropathic pain at the molecular and cellular level has developed at an extraordinary rate in recent years. Inflammatory, or neuropathic, neuronal plasticity describes the process by which the neurons involved in pain transmission are converted from a state of normosensitivity to one in which they are ...

Molecular mechanisms of cellular mechanics
Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2006Mechanical forces play an essential role in cellular processes as input, output, and signals. Various protein complexes in the cell are designed to handle, transform and use such forces. For instance, proteins of muscle and the extracellular matrix can withstand considerable stretching forces, hearing-related and mechanosensory proteins can transform ...

Inherited Thrombocytopenias: Molecular Mechanisms
Seminars in Thrombosis and Hemostasis, 2004Each megakaryocyte forms 10(3) platelets and 10(11) platelets are replenished daily. The unique and amazing mechanisms that allow megakaryocytes to become giant and polyploid and to release such a large number of platelets are still poorly understood.

Migraine: New Molecular Mechanisms
The Neuroscientist, 2005Migraine is an episodic headache disorder affecting more than 10% of the general population. Migraine arises from a primary brain dysfunction that leads to activation and sensitization of the trigeminovascular system. A major incompletely understood issue in the neurobiology of migraine concerns the molecular and cellular mechanisms that underlie the ...

Understanding molecular structure from molecular mechanics
Journal of Computer-Aided Molecular Design, 2011Molecular mechanics gives us a well known model of molecular structure. It is less widely recognized that valence bond theory gives us structures which offer a direct interpretation of molecular mechanics formulations and parameters. The electronic effects well-known in physical organic chemistry can be directly interpreted in terms of valence bond ...

Abstract The development of the atherosclerotic plaque relies on specific cognate interactions between ligands and receptors with the ability to regulate cell recruitment, inflammatory signalling, and the production of powerful inflammatory and bioactive lipid mediators.

Abstract The earliest reference known to the author on molecular mechanics is to be found in a paper by Andrews (1930), which has to do with vibrational spectroscopy. Andrews indicated that if we really understood the underlying fundamentals in this area, we should be able to calculate all of the kinds of things with which this ...

This chapter examines molecular mechanics. By bringing together features from both the Central Force Field and Valence Force Field methods, it proved possible to derive energy functions which were at once chemically intuitive while still retaining the concept of through space attractions and repulsions.

Molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis
Clinics in Dermatology, 1983Abstract The first clue to the etiology of pemphigus was established in 1964, when Beutner and Jordon 1 demonstrated that serum from pemphigus patients contained autoantibodies that bound to an intercellular substance (ICS) of skin and mucosa. Subsequently, skin biopsies revealed in vivo deposition of auto-antibodies in the epidermis of pemphigus ...
