Electron-transport properties of ethyne-bridged diphenyl zinc-porphyrin molecules

open access: yes, 2015
We investigate the electron-transport properties of ethyne-bridged diphenyl zinc-porphyrin molecules suspended between gold (111) electrodes by first-principles calculations within the framework of density functional theory.

A combinatorial approach to improving the performance of azoarene photoswitches

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2019
Azoarenes remain privileged photoswitches – molecules that can be interconverted between two states using light – enabling a huge range of light addressable multifunctional systems and materials.

Engineering precision RNA molecular switches

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1999
Ligand-specific molecular switches composed of RNA were created by coupling preexisting catalytic and receptor domains via structural bridges. Binding of ligand to the receptor triggers a conformational change within the bridge, and this structural reorganization dictates the activity of the adjoining ribozyme.

DDX3X induces mesenchymal transition of endothelial cells by disrupting BMPR2 signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Elevated DDX3X expression led to downregulation of BMPR2, a key regulator of endothelial homeostasis and function. Our co‐immunoprecipitation assays further demonstrated a molecular interaction between DDX3X and BMPR2. Notably, DDX3X promoted lysosomal degradation of BMPR2, thereby impairing its downstream signaling and facilitating endothelial‐to ...

London dispersion as important factor for the stabilization of (Z)-azobenzenes in the presence of hydrogen bonding

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2018
The understanding and control of the light-induced isomerization of azobenzenes as one of the most important classes of molecular switches is crucial for the design of light-responsive materials using this entity.

Switching and Rectification of a Single Light-sensitive Diarylethene Molecule Sandwiched between Graphene Nanoribbons

open access: yes, 2011
The 'open' and 'closed' isomers of the diarylethene molecule that can be converted between each other upon photo-excitation are found to have drastically different current-voltage characteristics when sandwiched between two graphene nanoribbons (GNRs ...

Antibiofilm activity of a chionodracine‐derived peptide by NMR‐based metabolomics of cell‐free supernatant of Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KHS‐Cnd peptide is able to impair biofilm formation and disaggregate mature biofilms in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates. Differences in extracellular metabolites reflect changes in biofilm metabolism due to KHS‐Cnd treatment. Among the differentially represented extracellular metabolites upon KHS‐Cnd treatment, the significantly altered ...

Switchable molecular tweezers: design and applications

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry
Switchable molecular tweezers are a unique class of molecular switches that, like their macroscopic analogs, exhibit mechanical motion between an open and closed conformation in response to stimuli.

A bisazobenzene crosslinker that isomerizes with visible light

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2012
Background: Large conformational and functional changes of azobenzene-modified biomolecules require longer azobenzene derivatives that undergo large end-to-end distance changes upon photoisomerization.
