Topological states of the diatomic linear chain: effect of impedance matching to the fixed ends

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2020
The diatomic linear chain with nearest-neighbor spring constants C _1 and C _2 has topologically different bulk states for C _1 ≷ C _2 . A finite chain of N unit cells and fixed ends (the first and last spring is C _1 ) exhibits two topological end ...

Update on the Development of Toehold Switch-Based Approach for Molecular Diagnostic Tests of COVID-19

open access: yesJournal of Nucleic Acids, 2022
A high volume of diagnostic tests is needed during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic to obtain representative results. These results can help to design and implement effective policies to prevent the spread of severe acute respiratory ...

Vortex molecules in coherently coupled two-component Bose-Einstein condensates

open access: yes, 2004
A vortex molecule is predicted in rotating two-component Bose-Einstein condensates whose internal hyperfine states are coupled coherently by an external field. A vortex in one component and that in the other are connected by a domain wall of the relative

Goodbye flat lymphoma biology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Three‐dimensional (3D) biological systems have become key tools in lymphoma research, offering reliable in vitro and ex vivo platforms to explore pathogenesis and support precision medicine. This review highlights current 3D non‐Hodgkin lymphoma models, detailing their features, advantages, and limitations, and provides a broad perspective on future ...

A density matrix approach to photoinduced electron injection

open access: yes, 2001
Electron injection from an adsorbed molecule to the substrate (heterogeneous electron transfer) is studied. One reaction coordinate is used to model this process.

From omics to AI—mapping the pathogenic pathways in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Integrating multi‐omics data with AI‐based modelling (unsupervised and supervised machine learning) identify optimal patient clusters, informing AI‐driven accurate risk stratification. Digital twins simulate individual trajectories in real time, guiding precision medicine by matching patients to targeted therapies.

ERBIN limits epithelial cell plasticity via suppression of TGF‐β signaling

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In breast and lung cancer patients, low ERBIN expression correlates with poor clinical outcomes. Here, we show that ERBIN inhibits TGF‐β‐induced epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in NMuMG breast and A549 lung adenocarcinoma cell lines. ERBIN suppresses TGF‐β/SMAD signaling and reduces TGF‐β‐induced ERK phosphorylation.

The magic in molecules [PDF]

open access: yesNature Physics, 2019
The demonstration of high-resolution spectroscopy of Sr2 molecules trapped in an optical lattice at the ‘magic’ wavelength opens the way to precision control of molecular excitations.

DNA unwinding heterogeneity by RecBCD results from static molecules able to equilibrate. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Single-molecule studies can overcome the complications of asynchrony and ensemble-averaging in bulk-phase measurements, provide mechanistic insights into molecular activities, and reveal interesting variations between individual molecules.
