A regularized version of the Kuwabara-Kono force scheme for 2nd order convergence in DEM simulations of granular materials [PDF]
The Discrete Element Method is a technique widely used to simulate multi-particle systems, in particular granular materials. For conservative systems, the integration of the equations of motion is often performed via a Verlet-type method of order two ...

Bounded Independence Fools Degree-2 Threshold Functions [PDF]
Let x be a random vector coming from any k-wise independent distribution over {-1,1}^n. For an n-variate degree-2 polynomial p, we prove that E[sgn(p(x))] is determined up to an additive epsilon for k = poly(1/epsilon).

Mollification of the fourth moment of Dirichlet $L$-functions [PDF]
We evaluate some twisted fourth moment of Dirichlet $L$-functions at the central point s=1/2 and for prime moduli q. The principal tool is a careful analysis of a shifted convolution problem involving the divisor function using spectral theory of automorphic forms and bounds for bilinear forms in Kloosterman sums.

Complementarity of Long‐Reads and Optical Mapping in Parkinson's Disease for Structural Variants
ABSTRACT Objective Long‐read sequencing and optical genome mapping technologies have the ability to detect large and complex structural variants. This has led to the discovery of novel pathogenic variants in neurodegenerative movement disorders. Thus, we aimed to systematically compare the SV detection capabilities of OGM and ONT in Parkinson's disease.

Posterior Cortical Atrophy in the Asia‐Pacific: A Report From the PCA Asian Workgroup
ABSTRACT Objective Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA) is a distinct dementia syndrome primarily affecting spatial abilities and visual processing. It is associated with degeneration in the posterior part of the brain. PCA is subclassified into PCA‐pure and PCA‐plus syndromes based on consensus criteria.

Variation in annual rainfall data of forty years (1978-2017) for south-south, Nigeria
In this study the annual rainfall data of forty years (1978-2017) for South-South, Nigeria was collected from the archive of NiMet. Three methods were used for the analysis; statistical differences between two the equal-length time scales, coefficient ...

On the structure of $\infty$-Harmonic maps
Let $H \in C^2(\mathbb{R}^{N \times n})$, $H\geq 0$. The PDE system \[ \label{1} A_\infty u \, :=\, \Big(H_P \otimes H_P + H [H_P]^\bot H_{PP} \Big)(Du) : D^2 u\, = \, 0 \tag{1} \] arises as the ``Euler-Lagrange PDE" of vectorial variational problems for

Objectives There is growing interest in evaluating new strategies to delay or prevent post‐traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) in individuals who have sustained anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. This study sought to determine characteristics of potential treatments that are acceptable to patients with ACL injury.
