KRAS and GNAS mutations in cell‐free DNA and in circulating epithelial cells in patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms—an observational pilot study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that KRAS and GNAS mutations are more prevalent in patients with resected intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) compared to those under clinical surveillance. GNAS mutations significantly differ between the two patient cohorts, indicating that their absence may serve as a potential biomarker to support conservative ...

Strange Quark Magnetic Moment of the Nucleon at the Physical Point

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2017
We report a lattice QCD calculation of the strange quark contribution to the nucleon's magnetic moment and charge radius. This analysis presents the first direct determination of strange electromagnetic form factors including at the physical pion mass.

Chirality-driven orbital magnetic moments as a new probe for topological magnetic structures

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
To determine the topological character of a magnetic structure, one has to rely on techniques based on spin magnetism. Here, the authors study chirality-driven orbital moment physics and propose a new experimental protocol for the identification of ...

Quantum Hydrodynamic Model by Moment Closure of Wigner Equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, we derive the quantum hydrodynamics models based on the moment closure of the Wigner equation. The moment expansion adopted is of the Grad type firstly proposed in \cite{Grad}. The Grad's moment method was originally developed for the Boltzmann equation.

Theory of the solid-state physics on the turn: II. Importance of the spin-orbit coupling for 3d-ion compounds: the case of NiO

open access: yes, 2000
The orbital and spin moment of the Ni2+ ion in NiO has been calculated at 0 K to be 0.54mB and 1.99 mB respectively. Such large orbital moment, more than 20% of the total moment of 2.53 mB, proves the need for the ''unquenching'' of the orbital moment in

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Physical Activity Is Linked to Greater Moment-To-Moment Variability in Spontaneous Brain Activity in Older Adults

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2015
Higher cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and physical activity (PA) in old age are associated with greater brain structural and functional integrity, and higher cognitive functioning. However, it is not known how different aspects of lifestyle such as sedentariness, light PA (LI-PA), or moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MV-PA) relate to neural ...

New Physics Searches from Nucleon Matrix Elements in Lattice QCD

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
In this paper we review recent progress in hadron structure using lattice QCD simulations, with main focus in the evaluation of nucleon matrix elements. We highlight developments that may guide new Physics searches, such as the scalar and tensor charges,

Searching for dark sector with missing mass technique in fixed target experiments [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2019
Currently, the existence of a dark sector almost completely decoupled from the Standard Model is a viable solution for numerous long-standing problems in physics, including the nature of dark matter and the muon anomalous magnetic moment.

A Pionic Hadron Explains the Muon Magnetic Moment Anomaly

open access: yes, 2007
A significant discrepancy exists between experiment and calculations of the muon's magnetic moment. We find that standard formulas for the hadronic vacuum polarization term have overlooked pionic states known to exist.
