Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Scattering From Chiral Cylinders of Arbitrary Cross-Sections Above a Ground Plane

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
The main purpose of this work is to solve the problem of electromagnetic scattering from a chiral cylinder of arbitrary cross-section above an infinite perfect electric conducting (PEC) plane.

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

On two resolvent matrices of the truncated Hausdorff matrix moment problem

open access: yesVisnik Harkivsʹkogo Nacionalʹnogo Universitetu im. V.N. Karazina. Cepiâ Matematika, Prikladna Matematika i Mehanika, 2022
We consider the truncated Hausdorff matrix moment problem (THMM) in case of a finite number of even moments to be called non degenerate if two block Hankel matrices constructed via the moments are both positive definite matrices.

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have

Calculation of explosion bending moment in hull girders subjected to non-contact underwater explosions

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu, 2017
Non-contact underwater explosion can generate violent movement on hull girders, which may cause longitudinal strength problems. The explosion bending moment can be calculated using a detailed finite element ship model, but this costs considerable working ...

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Estimation of Nonparametric Conditional Moment Models with Possibly Nonsmooth Moments [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper studies nonparametric estimation of conditional moment models in which the residual functions could be nonsmooth with respect to the unknown functions of endogenous variables.

Application of ferroelectric materials for improving output power of energy harvesters

open access: yesNano Convergence, 2018
In terms of advances in technology, especially electronic devices for human use, there are needs for miniaturization, low power, and flexibility. However, there are problems that can be caused by these changes in terms of battery life and size.
